Could you imagine a 'Scream' TV series without the classic horror icon 'Ghostface?' I sure couldn't - but it looks like RJ Torbert (from Fun World, the company behind the character) can, because according to him - Ghostface will NOT be making an appearance in the new show.

In a recent interview with Ghostface.co.uk, Torbert had this to say about the horror TV series:

To answer your question regarding the “Scream” TV series…
Please note, that I had been in communication with TWC regarding this and they have informed me, that as of now, and during the initial launch that Ghostface is NOT involved in the new format. They also indicated that because of this direction, it does not mean, that Ghostface will not be involved at a later date. So, there is still a question, to the question.
However, as of now, there is no involvement.

OK, so he/she won't be involved to begin with, but maybe the character will make an appearance later on in the show? I guess only time will tell, but I'm not too sure how a 'Scream' TV series will go without including the main villain that everyone knows and loves the film series for. During the interview, Torbert also stated this:

We believe ‘Scream’ is Ghostface, and Ghostface is Scream. However, while Ghostface is owned by Fun World, The Scream Motion Picture Franchise is owned by The Weinstein Company and it is their option to Film a movie or TV show without Ghostface.
Regardless, we wish them the best of luck and I’m sure ‘Scream’ fans will check out the series. Who knows what will happen in the future regarding the series and Ghostface. Never say never.

The series is said to center around a viral video gone wrong, which in turn leads to adverse repercussions for teenager Audrey Jesen. Audrey will then serve as the "catalyst for a murder who opens up a window to the town's troubled past."

The MTV series will star Willa Fitzgerald, Taylor-Klaus, Bobby Campo (The Final Destination), Connor Weil (Sharknado) and Joel Gretsch (Witches of East End, V, The 4400).

So my question to you guys is - are you still excited for the series, or are you massively disappointed by this surprising news? Lemme know in the comments below!
