DISCLAIMER: Since Capcom won't tell us, we've gotta take things into our own hands. Resident Evil Fans.. ASSEMBLE! Let us know how YOU feel! Are they or aren't they?!
Jill Redfield. To some of you that just sounds right, doesn't it? Unfortunately, we might never know if Chris and Jill actually are a couple or if they're the next Mario and Peach or Link and Zelda (yea, I said it).
Alright, now where were we? That's right. We don't really know.
Fan-fictions aside, things just aren't that clear between Capcom's iconic zombie killers. As an avid Resident Evil fan, I want some closure!
That's why I'm calling RE fans, gamers, and zombie aficionados alike to chime in and settle this once and for all.
To stir the pot, I'm throwing out some basic observations:
- Chris and Jill have some sort of relationship. (Check)
- They both have risked life and limb to save one-another. (Another check)
- There's always awkward tension between them. (Um... have you played any Resident Evil?)
I mean, we're not talking rocket science here... so why is it so hard to figure out what's really going on with these two?
Let's start with what we know about our potential love birds:
Well for starters, we have Chris Redfield, the typical tough-guy type who's always got his mind on the mission at hand (just ask Jessica). Chris and Jill were partners at S.T.A.R.S. and have been close ever since.
He's beefed up a lot since his original RE days - so much so that he was voted Gamespot's "character most likely to fail a performance-enhancing drug test" in the Dubious Honors Awards back in 2009 (ha!).
He's got a soft spot for Jill and he was pretty torn-up after believing she died after the incident with Wesker at the Spencer Estate.
Still, I'm not entirely convinced that he doesn't just think of Jill as a sister. He's shown her about as much affection as Cloud showed Tifa. Yea. Exactly.
Then again, it kinda makes sense for him to be just as emotional as Robocop when it comes to his love life - can you picture Chris as a sensitive, romantic?
One thing's for sure: Chris needs some dating tips at the very least. Maybe spend more time working out his inner-Romeo and less time working out his biceps (that was the last jab, I swear).
Then we have Jill Valentine, one of gaming's most beloved, attractive, and ass-kicking female protagonists. She can definitely handle her own against the zombie hordes of the RE world, not to mention Tyrant(s), Nemesis, etc.
Jill's also got a soft-spot for Chris and has actually saved Chris' hide a few times before too. She's a helluva catch and I honestly have always felt that these two were more than just pals.
Personally, I think even without explicit proof, I'm leaning towards them being just a really anti-PDA couple.
My Reasoning behind this:
A). They're both really attractive (at least as far as polygons go) and have been through so much together. They probably hooked up at the very least. (At least I'd like to believe that they're not both so naiive that they see nothing there).
B). In Resident Evil: Revelations, Chris gets super middle school awkward when asked about Jill. (Secrets, secrets are no fun, Chris).
C). Also per RE: Revelations - between Parker and Jessica:
Jessica: (regarding her obvious flirting with Chris) "He never got the hint."
*scene pans to Chris and Jill walking away together*
Parker: "Maybe he's taken, Jessica."
There you have it, well my two cents at least. But hey, don't let my opinion change your mind. We're here to settle the score once and for all. What do all of YOU think?
