Director David Ayer is currently doing press for his World War II movie Fury, so of course talk turned to his next project, Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.

"Fury whetted my appetite for a bigger canvas and this idea of world creation,” he told Empire. “You can do amazing things as a filmmaker if you have the proper tools, and those are time and money.”

Suicide Squad is scheduled as the second DC behemoth to hit the big screen, following Batman V Superman in 2016. Of course, Ayer couldn't say too much, but he did drop one or two interesting little hints about his vision for the film.

“I can say that it’s a Dirty Dozen with supervillains,” he said.

Empire then threw out the name of one of the squad's more popular, and regular members - Captain Boomerang, who will next be seen on Arrow played by Nick Tarabay. Ayer was asked how one would go about casting an Aussie raciest for the part, to which the director replied: “Like one would cast any other role. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m going to do what I do in my typical fever dream of directing.”

Does this confirm that George Harkness will be showing up when the film hits theaters in 2016? While nothing is 100% official at this time, it certainly sounds as though Ayer has indeed confirmed the character's involvement in the film.

Ayer went on to admit that he is relishing the leap into the comic-book galaxy for his next project. “I love the passion [comic-book fans] have for these characters and these worlds. I think there’s something incredible about the comic genre and technology has finally caught up with pen and ink to render these fantastic worlds in a way that feels believable and visceral to audiences. It’s a secular religion in that regards. The mythology that these characters represent – the idea of them as fallen gods on Earth – is intriguing to me. I can’t wait to start exploring those corridors.”

Slated for release in 2016, Suicide Squad is rumored to star the likes of Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie, although nothing cast-wise has officially been announced at this time.
