J.K. Rowling has officially announced that she's releasing a brand new Harry Potter story for Halloween. Makes a bucket of candy seem like a pretty lame treat, huh?
The awesome news just broke on Rowling-endorsed Harry Potter fansite Pottermore, where the story will be available from Halloween.
Fans can expect 1,700 words of new Harry Potter material, focusing on banality-of-evil personified, Professor Dolores Umbridge!
Here are the details of the new Umbridge story:
Umbridge's life filled with many new details, as well as Rowling's revealing first-person thoughts and reflections about the character.
Umbridge is not only one of the most malicious Potter characters, she is the only person other than Lord Voldemort to leave a permanent physical scar on Harry.
That last line really resonated with me - the two people to have scarred Harry's skin for life represent the two different extremes of evil, one typified by violence and lust for power, the other an insidious, obsequious passivity. Voldemort is evil outside the law, while Umbridge operates within the confines of the legal system...
Do you think that Umbridge is 'evil,' or just a nasty piece of work? And HOW FREAKIN' EXCITED are you guys for the new Harry Potter story?
