Henry Cavill is Superman, Ben Affleck is Batman, Gal Gadot is Wonderwoman, Jason Momoa is Aquaman, Ezra Miller is The Flash, and Ray Fisher is Cyborg. That is the Justice League cast as it stands right now (badass cast too). Green Lantern is the one Justice Leaguer who has yet to be cast (or at least yet to be announced). With a solo movie coming in 2020 and two Justice League movies coming before that, we're left wondering which [Green Lantern](movie:593221) will DC choose and who will play them?
The first option is the main Lantern from Earth, Hal Jordan. Jordan was the focus of the mediocre 2011 Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds. Few fans want to be reminded of this movie (I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed it, though I did not like how they embodied Parallax). DC could try to distance themselves from this movie by not using Hal since their rebooting the character. Hal is, however, a great character and his personality leads to awesome moments with the Justice League.
How awesome would it be if this moment happened on screen!
Jordan's character would bring a different dynamic to the group and add some humor (if that's allowed).
Now who could play Jordan and really do it well? Ryan Reynolds did a really good job, but since their rebooting they wont use Reynolds again (he's more made for Deadpool anyway).
Here's a couple options:
Cooper is a blockbuster option who has the charisma to carry a movie and a franchise. He's got a great combination of humor and action-oriented talents that make him a solid choice for Hal Jordan. DC can't go wrong with this pick. DC's casting has been kinda out of left field so I'm gonna include an option in that vain.
Nikolaj has become popular for his role as Jaime Lannister on Game of Thrones. He has similar qualities as Cooper, which makes him a fit for Hal Jordan as well. However, he hasn't shown the ability to carry a movie by himself, but that hasn't stopped DC from casting other actors who also haven't shown that ability (Gadot, Momoa, Fisher, Miller).
Who would make a better Hal Jordan?
John Stewart is the other option for Green Lantern and is a popular option. Stewart is all around bad-ass ring slinger who became popular during Justice League's animated run. He's a fan favorite and a lot of people want to see him as the Lantern in the in the DC cinematic universe (me included). If the rumors of "no jokes allowed" out of DC are true, then Stewart is the obvious option because he's all business.
The one actor who I (and everyone else on the planet) think should play Stewart is Idris Elba.
Elba just has everything to play Stewart, the look, the intensity, the badassery, and he definitely has the chops to carry a movie and a franchise. I want this to happen!
Another pick (for the sake of variety and having a left-field pick) is Billy Brown.
Brown is best known for his role as August Marks on Sons of Anarchy. He would be unexpected pick and also hasn't proved much, but he has the look and intensity.
Who do you think is better for John Stewart?
Kyle Rayner could be an option for Green Lantern, but I just don't see it. Jordan and Stewart have more history and popularity behind them, which in my mind makes them the only two options.
At the end of the day as much as I would love to see Stewart, I think they'll use Jordan again. He has great stories behind him that DC can adapt to the big screen and maybe down the line they can revisit Parallax and introduce the other Earth Lanterns in a story where they have to fight a Parallax possessed Hal Jordan, ending in a shift from Jordan to Stewart or Rayner as the primary Lantern.
