The announcement that the Avengers 2: Age of Ultron trailer would air after next week’s Agents of SHIELD sent the internet into an uproar. The leaked trailer that followed sent fans into a crazed frenzy. It spread like wildfire as Marvel scrambled to pull it down but ultimately gave in. After a tongue-in-cheek tweet that read “Dammit, Hydra” the trailer made its official debut on YouTube and the resulting squee could be heard around the world. So what secrets does the trailer show? Let me break it down for you:
Let’s start with the voice over. That menacing voice that runs through the trailer is James Spader, star of The Blacklist and known for his role in Stargate, he will voice the big bad Ultron. His vicious growl is the last step in creating the ultimate A.I. villain. In Marvel lore, Ultron is created by Hank Pym, develops sentience and then goes on to terrorize the Marvel U. In Avengers 2, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) will be the father of Ultron. The trailer shows us our first look at the robot menace. About 18 seconds into the trailer there’s a glimpse of his arm forming under melting metal, similar to a 1969 story line in which Ultron covers himself with indestructible adamantium. Unfortunately, Fox owns the rights the term adamantium, but it is possible that the movie might see Ultron bathe himself in vibranium which would make him just as dangerous, note how his appearance looks different at the end of the trailer (1:56) from the beginning (0:36).
