It's a pretty amazing planet we live on here, and a man would have to be some kind of fool to think we're all alone in this universe.

Both direct products of the slasher genre, Halloween and Friday the 13th are only two of the three most popular Horror movie franchises ever. And both of the antagonist have become some of the most popular villains to hit the big screen.

Also, for those of you who don't know, Halloween falls on Friday the 31st this year. What's the significance of Friday the 31st you ask? Well if it wasn't already obvious, Halloween will be on a Friday this year, and will fall on the opposite of 13, which is 31. Basically meaning that Halloween almost falls on Friday the 13th, but won't because of the rearrangement of two numbers. Frustrating right?

But back to the point of the article. Because of this rare phenomenon, I immediately figured I'd create an article surrounding it. And what's more obvious than comparing these two slasher movie juggernauts? Using points for this epic battle, let's see who the real winner of this face-off is..

Friday the 13th

Scary?:

Despite being considered a ''scary movie,'' Friday the 13th in my opinion, just isn't that scary. Awesome? Incredible? Attention grabbing? Definitely, but not scary. The first four had some scary elements to it, but never anything to keep me from sleeping. Of course, if it were a reality, and if I were in the position of some of the characters, then yes, it would terrify me. But until then..

Halloween

Scary?:

Unlike Friday the 13th, Halloween fits under the title ''scary movie'' much more; Because of how realistic the settings are, because of that legendary theme, and because of how realistic Michael Myers seems, even after repeatedly proving that he isn't a human being, Halloween has proven it can be the scariest film you've ever seen if it really wanted to. The last flick may not deliver in this category very well, but I'm confident the next will succeed.

Friday the 13th does have it's moments for fear, but Halloween wins this category in a landslide.

Friday the 13th - 0/5 Halloween - 1/5

Friday the 13th

Story:

A fairly simple tale that tells the story of a mother who kills out of love for her thought-to-be dead son, Jason. Then the tables turn and it is a story of Jason killing for his dead mother. Enraged after watching her get beheaded, he becomes an icon of horror. A wonderful storyline if you ask me, those were the days when movies didn't have to be very complicated storywise, nice and simple..

Halloween

Story:

A young boy watches as his sister spends time with her boyfriend. After he leaves, this boy then creeps into the house, grabs a knife, his mask, and stabs his naked sister to death. Thus resulting in him being locked away into a mental institution for 15 years, until he decides to break out. Then all hell breaks lose as he terrorizes his quite town whilst looking for his sister to start on his journey of killing everyone in his family.

Halloween has an incredible storyline, one that is universally known to everyone. But Friday the 13th's story doesn't get AS complicated as Halloween's does further down the line. Friday the 13th wins..

Halloween - 1/5 Friday the 13th - 1/5

Friday the 13th

Antagonist:

Friday the 13th's antagonist is Jason. And Jason is one of the most popular cinematic characters ever. Synonymous with blood, guts, and Friday the 13th, Jason is getting even more popular as time moves forward. Why? because people can't get enough of JASON! There's no denying the thirst for seeing Jason onscreen, no matter how ridiculous the sequel may be...

Halloween

Antagonist:

Michael Myers, like Jason, is one of the most popular cinematic villains ever. Still managing to scare kids to death even today, the power of Michael Myers may never die..

I have a strong feeling these next few categories may end up being ties, like this one. Both are way to popular to just pick one winner for this category.

Halloween - 2/5 Friday the 13th - 2/5

Friday the 13th

Impact:

While it's true, Friday the 13th is a product of Halloween's success, it still has held its own all these years later. Even becoming as popular as the Halloween series itself. This franchise has influenced horror as we know it in many ways. By further pushing the silent/unstoppable villain formula out there. And most notably the blood and gore craze. Something that didn't really start until Friday the 13th came around. Now it's everywhere.

Halloween

Impact:

Halloween, as most of you know, has impacted the Horror movie genre in very many ways. It has introduced us to the standard slasher movie formula as we know it today: the silent and unstoppable killer, horny teens, death, the girl that always falls, and of course, the final girl tradition was all put on the forefront because of Halloween. So, its impact is greater than you probably thought it was.

Both franchises have impacted the film industry more than we could imagine, but Halloween put a whole sub-genre on the forefront, something not even Friday the 13th has under its belt.

Halloween - 3/5 Friday the 13th - 2/5

Friday the 13th

Legacy:

Differing from the 'impact' category, the 'legacy' category talks about how well Friday the 13th has done for itself, instead of how well it was done for the genre. And on that note I have to say, Friday the 13th has made itself into an unmistakable powerhouse for horror. From having a video game, to toys, to shirts, posters, movies, and a new television show, Friday the 13th is now considered to be one of the greatest and most influential film franchises ever.

Halloween

Legacy:

Much like Friday the 13th, Halloween is considered to be one of the most popular and most influential film franchises of all time. Now synonymous with Halloween, it would probably even be safe to say it has made the holiday a bit more popular as well. Meaning one doesn't come without the other, Halloween = Michael Myers and Michael Myers = Halloween.

Both have legacies to be reckoned with, there is no one winner in this round, so both get a point.

Halloween - 4/5 Friday the 13th - 3/5

This was an extremely close match up, and to be honest, who would want to live in a world without either Halloween or Friday the 13th? But the points say otherwise.

Halloween wins..
