The news is that Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan will have no further involvement with DC comic book movies for now at least. In a recent interview with Coming Soon Jonathan Nolan was asked if him and Christopher would have any further involvement with the DC universe this is what he had to say.
"I love those guys and my brother was involved in Man of Steel with Zack [Snyder] and David [Goyer]. I kind of feel like that chapter for us is closed. To be continued somewhere farther down the line? Maybe."
I know a lot of people might be upset over this news that the Nolan's will not be present during this big time for DC with them kicking things into high gear. I mean they already have movies planned all the way into 2020 and two Justice League movies planned out. I honestly think though this departure is for the best for both parties future. There's two big reasons I feel so strongly about this so ill go ahead and start with my first reason.
I'm honestly tired of seeing dark and gritty heroes portrayed on the big screen with a lack of humor. I'm not talking about Batman though because it honestly works very well for him.I feel after Nolan's grounded and gritty batman trilogy though this is what Warner Bros believe will work for every hero to come. That's not the case as it was shown with Man Of Steel and i sure hope they don't do the same with the other heroes and Justice League movie. I honestly thought Man Of Steel was trying too hard to be The Dark Knight and it just didn't fit with who Superman represents. I mean Batman and Superman at least in my eyes are like a ying yang but right now i see no difference in them. The way Superman was portrayed in Man Of Steel you just felt it too dark and melancholy with no sense of hope what so ever.
I know i might be coming off as a Marvel fan boy but they are doing something right and that's having their characters with the laughs but still giving them their serious tone. They also give other movies a lot more comic relief than others but they keep a healthy balance you cant just keep things serious at all times. That's when you quickly lose some people especially when it comes to superheroes. I mean sure we want to see some big dark epic stuff but lighten it up in the middle or end. I read somewhere that DC had a strict no joke policy after the disaster that was the Green Lantern so that could explain alot of things.
I really believe DC should give it another shot if they ever want to get where Marvel is already at. It doesn't even have to be goofy and corky like some of Marvel but just a little more lighthearted and fun will do it. We want our heroes to not only be epic and kick butt but also fill us with hope and cheer! My next reason and probably the biggest reason I'm happy to hear Christopher Nolan will stop focusing on DC comic book movies is...
I want to see Christopher focus more on movies like this and Inception now that comic book movies are off his plate. I truly love all of Nolan films but the ones i love the most aren't his comic based ones but more the psychological and Sci-Fi thrillers he's made. Everything from Memento, Insomnia, and Inception i just believe are some of the best movies I've ever seen. They truly inspire me to create something of that caliber and motivate me so much to work hard. Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is set to premiere next week and i'm more than excited for this i cant wait to see what Nolan will hit us with now. I've been waiting after Inception patiently for something like this from Nolan and now we finally have it so close. This is why i think its best Nolan is stepping away from DC comics so he can focus more on these projects than anything. Maybe he will do those Bond Movies hes always wanted to do? A boy can only dream i guess...
