So - that Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, huh?

That was...a whole lot of something. Something awesome, sure, and something so ridiculously crammed with action that it's nigh on impossible to take it all in with just one viewing. It's also, though - as it turned out - something jam packed full of questions.

Questions like: Just who was Andy Serkis playing? What's up with The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver hanging out with Ultron? Why is Thor so naked? Why has Bruce Banner gone full emo? And, most of all, who the hell is that woman hanging out with the Avengers on that balcony?

Y'know, this one.
Y'know, this one.

Well, while some of those questions may just have to wait for the next trailer - or the movie itself - to be satisfactorily resolved, that last one may just have been answered...

That mysterious female figure, standing next to Thor? The one third from the left?

Well, as Newsarama recently pointed out, she looks an awful lot like the - already confirmed to be appearing in the movie - South Korean actress Claudia Kim.

The Actress

Seen here, being Claudia Kim.
Seen here, being Claudia Kim.

Kim, better known in her native South Korea as Kim Soo-hyu, was confirmed to be appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron earlier this year - with an official revealing back in May that:

"It would be a spoiler, so we can’t tell you which character Kim Soo-hyun will play. Marvel always prohibits telling too much about the story. Her character is already decided and the scene is already written so we cast Kim Soo-hyun, but we can’t let you know about her character. We only can say that her character is a substantial supporting role.”

Which suggests one of two things: One, that Kim's character name reveals something substantial about her role (meaning she is playing an existing character), or two, that she's playing a small enough, nameless role that can only be described in a spoiler-y way (say, Ultron's Henchwoman).

The Role

Now, since the description of her part being "a substantial supporting role," and her appearance in the trailer, it seems safe to assume that the former is - at least - on the table. Which, in turn, means Claudia Kim could well be playing an already established Marvel character.

The only question then - since I can't recall a single South Korean Marvel hero (help me out here, gang?) - is who is she playing?

Here are our top three picks...

The Casting

Our first thought?

Kim Could be a New, Less Blonde Ms. Marvel

Now, we've all been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Ms. Marvel in the MCU - and her civilian alter-ego Carol Danvers, too. The thing is, there's absolutely nothing (other than faithfulness to the comic-book source) to say that Carol has to be a blonde, Caucasian Air Force officer.

Is it possible then that, instead, she could be re-imagined as a Korean-American colleague of James 'War Machine' Rhodes, played by Claudia Kim? Or, even, a bonafide South Korean superhero by the name of Ms. Marvel, opening the Avengers up to a less US-centric focus?

Seeing as the current comic-book Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers having become Captain Marvel) is a Pakistani-American called Kamala Khan, it's certainly not beyond the realm of possibility.

Kim Could be an Android Double Agent

Specifically, something close to the Marvel hero (and Avenger) Jocasta.

Jocasta's origins are intimately tied to those of Ultron - seeing as he created the hero to be his android 'mate.' Over the course of her bumpy, complex history, she's alternated between being a capable superhero, an involuntary ally of Ultron, and something very awkwardly stuck in between.

Throughout, though, she's remained a popular, yet very much non-mainstream, figure - making her a perfect choice for a re-imagined movie universe character.

Could Kim, then, be playing an Ultron-created wolf in (secretly android) sheep's clothing?

Or, alternatively, and possibly most likely...

Kim Could be a Scientist, Who Helped Create Ultron

Specifically Myron MacLain, the scientist who helped to perfect the formula for True Adamantium - otherwise known as the stuff Ultron (and Wolverine's metal-lined skeleton) is made out of. Which means MacLain, along with Hank Pym (in the comics, at least) can be considered partly responsible for the creation of Ultron.

Now, the odds of Kim - capable actress that she undoubtedly is - playing a middle aged male scientist seem fairly slim - but the possibility that she could be playing a scientist ally of Tony Stark's, who helped him develop Ultron in the first place - or an expert in Adamantium, who Ultron kidnaps, and forces to make him a superior set of armor?

Well, that's a whole lot more likely. If, then, you hear anything about a female scientist in [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) called Myra, or similar? Start looking around for Claudia Kim (and then let us know!)

What do you guys think? Who'll Claudia Kim be playing?
