Assassin's Creed Unity

The Assassin's Creed series has been driving me insane for quite a while. Ubisoft are more than content to release an inordinate amount of these games year in, year out and the formula is starting to get boring very quickly. Now they've taken the extraordinary step of releasing two separate games on the same day to cover both generations of consoles, money grab if ever I saw one.

[Assassin's Creed](movie:437814) revolutionised combat and open world adventures forever, there are endless games that borrow from its formula. Therefore, it has a lot to live up to and I feel like it's already reached its peak.

That being said, I have watched every clip and trailer for both Assassin's Creed: Unity and Assassin's Creed: Rogue, and Unity does have an appeal. While I did enjoy Black Flag, after 20 hours I just stopped, and found no will to complete the experience. Therefore I'm looking for a powerful AC story and dynamic to pull me back. Unity might just be the game to do it.

Cinematic Trailers

I have to admit that I was blown away by this trailer at E3. It was fresh, beautiful and greatly cinematically realised. The graphics were jaw dropping, the lighting was exceptional and the design of Paris is startling. I've never seen clothing rendered so well, from the Assassin's hoods to the military's uniforms, this trailer blew my mind.

The setting is perfect and doesn't feel forced. They've made it fit exceptionally well with the idea of co-op. A whole city rising up against the way in which it's being ruled is the perfect placement to explore new areas for the Assassin's Creed universe with friends.

The game is attempting to contribute innovations upon the already well established combat system that the series is famous for. In AC Unity, fencing was apparently the focus for combat as opposed to sword fighting. We also have new parkour abilities that we receive throughout the game or can purchase ourselves. There have always been little hiccups with the way in which we scaled buildings in AC, let's hope they've been fixed. I'm tired of my guy jumping off the side of a huge tower.

The crowd is greatly increased inside, lending us far more options within it. Additionally the graphics are getting a huge makeover as we step up to PS4 and Xbox One. Though I am not the greatest fan of the Assassin's Creed world as of late, AC 2 did dazzle me. I've just found it so difficult to recapture that sense of wonder in this world since. But who knows. Maybe Assassin's Creed Unity is the game for those that are tired of AC conventions have been waiting for.

How do you feel about the AC universe?
