Before I start ranting off in utter excitement, let me ask myself a question (Yes, I'm crazy). Would I recommend that people watch Interstellar?
Hold on, let me clear my throat with a 'glass' of water...
Yes, of course I would! This movie is fantastic! I would tell all my friends, family and total strangers to check this movie out! I had the privilege to attend the LA premiere for Christopher Nolan's Interstellar at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California. The experience was simply amazing and this is something that will stick with me for the rest of my life. But, we'll get into all of that in another article. I'm here to tell you my thoughts on Interstellar and why it could possibly be 2014's best movie. Also, I would like to remind you that I can't give away too much about the storyline or any spoilers.
Let's get started, shall we?
This story isn't based in the present, but who knows what the future holds for us?
To keep it short and sweet...Earth is in all kinds of trouble! I mean we're talking no food, and we need food, man! This story isn't based in the present, but who knows what the future holds for us? The country is in desperate need of farmers, not the next big Apple product. Like I said, we need food!
In the beginning we follow Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and his two children, Tom (Thimothée Chalamet) and Murph (Mackenzie Foy). Cooper has adopted a life as a farmer and wants to make things better for his family before the human species goes extinct. Thankfully, there still might be hope for Cooper to do the right thing, when he's assigned to a special team of engineers, scientists and adventurers with NASA. Now I know you're thinking - "What the hell!!!! Does a farmer have any place in space?" All I can tell you is that Cooper is not your ordinary farmer. Seriously, that's all I can say!
The team consist of actors Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey, Wes Bentley, David Gyasi and Michael Caine. There are some more big names sprinkled in that make cameo appearances, but I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise.
So what's the big picture?
This film takes you on a mesmerising adventure through outer space like no other sci-fi I've seen.
Interstellar is an epic sci-fi/adventure story that shows our planet going through an agricultural crisis, and we need to figure this phenomenon out or get the hell out of dodge.
These women are fantastic!
The casting and performances from the actors were top notch. It felt like every actor had their moment to shine and show off their skills. Matthew McConaughey was truly on his A-Game as Cooper. I haven't seen every McConaughey movie, but this ranks near the top of the list for an amazing talent. Mackenzie Foy is only 13 years old, but don't let her age fool you; this young lady knocks it out of the park when it comes to intense dramatic scenes between her and McConaughey. John Lithgow was so funny and brought much needed joy into an otherwise tense film.
Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain... Where do I start? I will say this once and once only. These women are fantastic! There are scenes where Hathaway steals the show right from under McConaughey. The lead female characters are written exceptionally and you don't see that in many blockbusters. Christopher and Jonathan Nolan did a great job casting their team, so two big thumbs up for these fine gentlemen.
In short - nobody disappoints in this movie. Simple as that. Everyone is here for business, and the audience gets only the best performances.
Damn, I have goosebumps just thinking about it as I write this review.
Gorgeous! It's an absolute must to experience Interstellar in IMAX... truly breathtaking. I'll never forget the black hole scene (image above) - it gave me such chills! Damn, I have goosebumps just thinking about it as I write this review. My conclusion? If you think watching Gravity in 3D was incredible, then get ready to be blown away by Interstellar.
Interstellar's score ranges from epic sci-fi and drama, to thriller and even horror vibe.
I absolutely love the score from start to finish! Every time I open my mouth about Interstellar I tell people the score was one of the highlights. Hans Zimmer is a musical GOD! Seriously, Interstellar's score ranges from epic sci-fi and drama, to thriller and even horror vibe. I mean it gets really eerie and uncomfortable in stretches where you feel like you're actually watching a horror movie. My only minor complaint? The score was actually overpowering at times, what with the absurd scope and drama already on the screen. So that's a little heads up for all of you.
Like Inception, it's going to take some people a second time to warm up to this movie due to all the twists and turns.
Interstellar has Oscar written all over it. This is a great movie that ALL moviegoers will truly enjoy. I would give Interstellar 9 out of 10.
People are going to like this movie the first time they watch it, but they won't fully love it until a second viewing. There's so much to take in here. Yes, you'll want to watch it a second time. Like Inception, it's going to take some people a second time to warm up to this movie due to all the twists and turns. I would love to elaborate, but I refuse to spoil too much!
I know it's saying a lot, but this is - without a doubt - Christopher Nolan's best film. He tells a fantastic story that had me on the edge of my seat for the ENTIRETY! The movie is close to 3 hours short. Yep, I said short, since it never feels like you're watching a 3-hour film - this was entertainment at it's BEST!!!!
Oh, and did I mention I cried like a baby? Yes, I'm man enough to admit this.
If you're looking for great performances, a magnificent score, mind-blowing special effects, plus sound and cinematography to match, then look no further because Interstellar has arrived on planet Earth.
INTERSTELLAR hits theaters on November 5th, so mark your calendars! Reminder: You MUST watch this in IMAX!
