Hugh Jackman has admitted he's thankful to have teams of women fawning over his face everyday, but the reason why is deathly serious.
The [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942) actor explained that the reason he is so grateful for all of the female attention is because it's helped him spot skin cancer early no less than three times.
In an interview with ABC News the 46-year-old actor credited his wife Deborra-Lee Furness for helping him make his health a priority. The actor told audiences that:
We are all human, this happened to me. I didn't wear sunscreen when I was a kid. I don't want kids to be as stupid as me and maybe they'll listen to Wolverine more than they'll listen to teachers at school. It's all preventable. I was lucky to be in a job, where I have makeup artists looking at my face, going, 'What is that?', and my wife nagging me to go and get it checked out
Thanks to the vigilance of those around him, Jackman is currently undergoing his third bout of treatment for skin cancer.
The X-Men star previously had a basal cell carcinoma removed last November as well as receiving further treatment in May of this year. Fortunately if caught early enough, this type of cancer is usually entirely treatable.
Catching skin cancer in its early stages is absolutely crucial though, although the external physical changes can seem trivial, skin cancer kills almost 10,000 American's every year when it spreads to other parts of the body and becomes untreatable.
So, don't forget the sunscreen, kids! Sure, it might be greasy, but it stops you looking prematurely aged, or being prematurely dead, which has to be a good thing!
