With all the buzz surrounding Marvel Studios this past week or so including the Avengers: Age of Ultron 'teaser' trailer being leaked and then officially dropped and reports coming in that Doctor Stranger has been cast, it would be easy to miss a few things. So this morning I flew through the internet for anything I could find and I'm bringing it all home in this report for you guys because I'm just that nice! Naturally, spoilers may follow so consider yourself warned. Here we go:
Age of Ultron
With what was described as a 'teaser' but was over two minutes long, the first trailer to the highly anticipated (..and that's an understatement) Avengers: Age of Ultron was - reluctantly I think - dropped. It has been reported by Digital Spy that in the first 24 hours it gained 34.3 million views which makes it Marvel's most viewed trailer! This years Captain America: The Winter Soldier's trailer gained 23.5 million and the first Avengers' teaser gained 20.4 million back in 2012. Out of the 34.3 million views, 26.2 million views were gained through the official Marvel YouTube account. I don't believe anyone could have missed the trailer but if you did, I'll put it at the end of this bit. Also, if you're in the US, tune into Agents of Shield tonight (Tuesday) as Marvel will be airing another trailer to Age of Ultron that includes exclusive content!
Moreover, the mystery woman standing next to Thor at the Avengers Bash is speculated to be Korean actress Kim Soo Hyun. She was cast in Age of Ultron and her role was described as "a substantial supporting role".
A set pic of Michael Douglas surfaced onto the internet earlier this week. It shows the 70 year old actor looking rather dashing in a brown tweed suit as Hank Pym:
Also, Anchorman director, Adam McKay who helped Marvel rewrite Ant Man after Edgar Wright's departure has hinted that he will be directing a future project for Marvel. In an interview with Crave Online he says:
"I just did a big rewrite on Ant-Man with Paul Rudd and had such a great time working with them that we're kicking around ideas. But yeah, maybe I would take on one of the characters so we haven't locked in anything but discussions are definitely going on."
On the Doctor Strange front Deadline has reported that Benedict Cumberbatch is in 'final negotiations' to play Stephen Strange also known as The Sorcerer Supreme. Recently Cumberbatch has been floating around the rumour mill a lot and there were reports that DC snatched him up for one of their projects. Other people rumoured for Doctor Strange were Tom Hardy, Colin Farrel and also Keanu Reves let it be known that he wouldn't mind taking on the role.
Captain America 3
Since the internet blew up after we found out that our beloved Robert Downey Jr. is going to skip over to Captain America 3 there's not much else I can report. With the news, many people are in agreement that Captain America 3 will adopt it's own version of the Civil War story line and also Fallen Son where The Superhero Registration act is announced and Iron Man is for it whilst our good Captain is against it. The story line involves nearly all the characters Marvel Comics have and pits them against each other which ends up with the assassination of Captain America. Many believe the story will start in Captain America 3 and pave it's way into Avengers 3. With all the fighting going on, Thanos may show up in Avengers 3 which may be what unites the superheroes which might confirm the rumour that Avengers 3 will be in two parts. Part 1 may conclude Civil War and then open up the Infinity Gauntlet story and then it's conclusion in part 2 of Avengers 3. Someone get DC a drink.
Nothing much new is going on at the Thor 3 front. What we do know is that it is still - officially - in development. Rumours are suggesting that it will be a live action adaptation of the Ragnarok story line. In it, Thor goes up against the fire demon Surtur and has enough of Loki and his antics so rips off his head.
Marvel's 'Surprise Announcement'
We are now less than a day away from Marvel's big surprise announcement tomorrow and we can only wonder what glorious news Marvel has brewing for us. Jerome Maida made up a report on this beautiful website which I found interesting. In it he states that it may not just be one 'big' announcement'. He believes that if Marvel were to officially drop the release date of Doctor Strange and also confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch is indeed playing the role of the Sorcerer Supreme, the announcement would not be big enough. He goes on to say that if they were to announce another movie for 2017 (Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Back Widow) alongside the official announcement for Doctor Strange then that would be worthy of the title of "Big, Surprise Announcement".
Jerome goes on to explain the likely hood of Marvel announcing that Spiderman has returned to them or they have made a deal with Sony so that they can both use him. If you guys haven't already, you should definitely check it out - Marvel's BIG Announcement: Is Spider-Man Joining The Avengers Civil War!?
That's all I've got for you guys at the moment. I hope you enjoyed that and if I've missed anything let me know in the comments. Till the next one!
What are you guys looking forward to the most?
