Which two slasher villains should join together for a mash up flick is always a hot topic of conversation among horror fans, and has been even more so since the release of Freddy vs Jason in 2003. Child's Play creator Don Mancini has recently spoken out about how he would like to see a Freddy vs Chucky movie in the near future, although he does not know quite how likely it is that the project will move forward.
“I would like to do Freddy and Chucky, just because I think they would be a fun double act. My pitch for Freddy vs. Chucky is Child’s Play on Elm Street, and Chucky ends up in some kid’s house on Elm Street, and Freddy and Chucky inevitably meet in the dreamscape. They have this admiration for one another, but they realize quickly that Elm Street isn’t big enough for the two of them. So, in a riff of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, they have a contest: Who can kill the most teenagers before the sun comes up?”
So the idea's there, but how likely would this be to happen, and would Robert Englund decide to don the Freddy makeup one last time, despite claiming that he will never play the character again? Several years back Mr Englund stated that he would love to see a 'Freddy vs Chucky' flick, as it could be a lot of fun, and I totally agree. So you never know, he may just change his mind.
In other news, Don Mancini has revealed his plans for the new Child's Play 7 movie, and where he would like to go with the franchise. He claims that he has ideas to put Chucky on a train, but hasn't yet said anything regarding the fate of characters from previous films.
I thought that it would be interesting to do something where you've got your sort of archetypal or arguably stereotypical notion of the kid who’s just like, ‘The doll is alive and he’s doing this,’ but the kid befriends an old lady who’s also on the train. Like, the old lady is the only one who will listen to this kid. And as the story goes on, it turns out that the old lady has early onset Alzheimer’s. There’s just something, another reason other people aren't listening to her either. But it turns out she’s a charmed confidant of Chucky.
Woah, spoiler alert Don! So would we be seeing any more of Andy, Tiffany, Glen/Glenda etc? Plus why put Chucky on a train, isn't that just a little cliche? Personally, I'd love to see a throwback to the original, where we have Chucky going back after Andy - who turns out to be the only person he can possibly ever possess, hence why he's failed for all these years.
So what do you think, will we ever see a Freddy vs Chucky mash up, or is it just too good to be true? And what do you think of having Child's Play 7 take place on a train, good idea, or just a little too cliche? Lemme know in the comments section below!
