Earlier today, Marvel hosted a live event at the famous El Capitan Theatre. Here they made a few major announcements including the entire Phase 3 slate and the announcement of Chadwick Boseman playing [Black Panther](movie:9047). However, Kevin Feige made another comment during the event that many of us glazed over.
That comment was about...
Spider-Man Coming to The Avengers!?
Spider-Man's inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In commingsoon.net's live blog of the event, it was revealed that an unknown attendee asked Feige about Spider-Man and his inclusion in the cinematic universe.
For those of you who don't know, rumors have been buzzing around online that the disappointing box office numbers of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (as well as the production issues with the [Sinister Six](movie:1274281) and Venom movies) would result in Disney getting the film rights from Sony. It is likely that the person who asked the question was aware of these rumors.
According to Silas Lesnick, the live blog's author, this is how Feige responded:
He says it's either 'not true at all' or 'something not ready to be announced yet.'
So if there is was no chance at all of Disney getting the Spider-Man film rights, why would Feige tease that it's possible, but not ready to be announced? Could it be possible that Disney does indeed have a shot at getting the rights back? Even with a full slate ahead, is it still possible to fit Spider-Man into Phase Four?
Of course, this is still light years away from an official announcement. it is entirely possible that Feige was just saying that anything is possible in today's world. However, with all of the production chaos surrounding the Venom and Sinister Six movies, it's no surprise that Sony is in panic mode either way.
So do Feige's comments tease Spider-Man coming to the Cinematic Universe, or is he just saying that anything is possible?
