If you thought Mystic Falls was the only paranormal place in [The Vampire Diaries](series:200853) then think again! The latest promos have revealed that the town in which Elena and Caroline's college is located is also a mystic hotspot, and that even Whitmore College's homecoming party has supernatural origins!

Two clips for episode 5 have been released and our favorite professor, Alaric Saltzman explains everything about the background surrounding the homecoming party.

He tells the tale of a disfigured civil war soldier named Nathan Whitmore who survived the war to return home to his true love. But, when Whitmore finally got home he found her in bed with his brother, so naturally he killed him and chased her out into the cornfields.

Alaric concludes that every year on that same night Lady Whitmore, dressed in white and covered in her lovers blood, runs through the cornfields screaming for her life.

Woah, sounds like kind of a heavy origin for a party?! And seems like The Vampire Diaries is setting up for something major, especially when you read the synopsis for episode 5:

With Homecoming around the corner, Elena (Nina Dobrev) invites Liam (guest star Marco James) to attend a party at the corn maze with her. Instead of attending the homecoming festivities, Caroline (Candice Accola) is preoccupied after Stefan (Paul Wesley) shows up unexpectedly and needs her help cleaning up a mess created by Enzo (Michael Malarkey).

Uh, Elena, maybe you wanna stay home this homecoming?

Think about it!

One of the promos also includes Tyler slyly suggesting a date to Liv and being pretty promptly shot down, ouch! However that might be the least of Tyler's worries as episode 5 seems to have something nasty in store for him:

Heeding Elena’s advice to be more social, Alaric (Matt Davis) reluctantly attends the party, but a devastating accident quickly leaves him and Jo (guest star Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) rushing to save lives. Elsewhere, Tyler (Michael Trevino) finds himself in a dangerous position when his werewolf curse is put to the test, and an emotionally embattled Stefan comes clean to Caroline about his intent to move on from Mystic Falls.
Lastly, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) make an important discovery that affects their quest to get back home. Leslie Libman directed the episode written by Brett Matthews.

Wow, talk about intense. I cannot wait to see this! The fact that it's playing the day before Halloween makes it even more spooky, but I will definitely be tuning in!
