Well it's a great time to be a comic book fan, last week DC announced their slate for 2016-2020 and now Marvel is firing right back. Yesterday during their press event at The El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, Marvel announced their full lineup for phase three and I couldn't be more excited. I'm going to go through them in the order of their release and tell you what we already know.
Captain America: Civil War (May 6, 2016)
There has been a lot of speculation the last few weeks that this was coming and all of it seems to be correct. We had heard RDJ was going to be in the movie and the speculating began. (Spoiler Alert) If any of you unfamiliar with the civil war storyline, it focuses on Cap and Iron Man's disagreement about the Superhero Registration act. This law says that all costumed vigilantes must register their identities with the government so they can be held responsible for any wrong doing, be it intentional or unintentional, they cause. It will be Interesting to see how they bring this to the big screen considering none of the Avengers really have secret identities to keep secret but we will see. Age of Ultron is expected to lay the groundwork for this movie.
Doctor Strange (November 4, 2016)
Now this is the one that I'm most excited about, [Doctor Strange](movie:559685). We've been hearing about this one for a while and i believe that Doctor Strange is a key character in phase 3. He will open up a whole new door in the MCU. Magic has just been played off as science we don't understand, but now the Sorcerer Supreme can do things that are out of this dimension. It felt like every big name in Hollywood was up for the role but it seems we finally have our winner, Benedict Cumberbatch. It's not one hundred percent official yet but he is in final negotiations and the deciding factor will be if they can work out a schedule with him that will fit in with his TV series Sherlock. Some people aren't very happy about this, because they feel like he is a little overexposed at the moment, but I couldn't be happier with the casting. Let me know what you guys think in the comments.
Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 (May 5, 2017)
Here's another one I'm very excited about, [Guardians of the Galaxy 2](movie:1081113). Sure we already knew this was coming but we got even more good news when they told us that the release date moved up from July 28, 2017 to May 5, 2017. Sadly we don't know much at all about this movie besides that everyone is set to return. I guess we'll just have to wait till 2017
Thor: Ragnarok (July 28, 2017)
Okay so if any of you know Marvel comics or Norse mythology you know what Ragnarok means, and u can speculate one whats to come, I know I am. This movie is apparently very important in Phase 3, when Kevin Feige was asked about it he had this to say.
"This is a very important movie for us in Phase 3. We plan on taking Thor to another level. It picks up where we leave Thor in Avengers: Age of Ultron and impacts everything after." - Kevin Feige
So yea some pretty heavy stuff, so far only Hemsworth is confirmed for the movie and no other casting has been announced .
Black Panther (November 3, 2017)
This is one of the characters fans like me have been begging for. Not only do we have confirmation that were getting the movie we also have the casting. Chadwick Bosemen will be playing the king of Wakanda and I have to say that I am more than fine with it. He is a strong actor and has the chops to realistically pull off this character. You can also expect to see a lot of him because according to Deadline the actor has signed on for five films. He is going to make his official debut in Civil War but many people, including myself, believe he will appear in Age of Ultron. I dont think we'll see him in full [Black Panther](movie:9047) mode but I think he'll have a little cameo.
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 & 2 (May 4, 2018 & May 3, 2019)
I'll just knock these two out at the same time. These two movies are most likely going to change everything about the MCU. As you can guess from the title Thanos will have the Infinity Gauntlet by this time and that is no good for earths mightiest hero's. Rumors are going around that the first part will have a totally different roster from the original, which would make sense. I could see the first part being about how Thanos gets all the infinity stones and the second about everyone coming together to stop him. Also considering that Evans only has two more movies left in his contract i could see Marvel saving him for the finale. We may even see passing of the shield? This is all total speculations but I'm excited to see what they do.
Captain Marvel (July 6, 2018)
It has been confirmed that the Captain Marvel we will see will be Carol Danvers. Yes this will be Marvel's first female led movie, and I think that's pretty cool. I can't wait to see them bring her powers to life, Kevin Feige has even said that the only powers we've seen have been "punchy powers." Her powers are very cosmic, I mean she fly's and shoots energy. Another cool thing about this movie is that this comes out between the two new Avengers movie and i can't wait to see how it will effect the second movie.
The Inhumans (November 2, 2018)
Now this was the one that I was the most unfamiliar with. It's looking like The Inhumans are going to be Marvel's X-Men. The Inhumans are a race of superhumans who live on the moon. We really don't know anything about this movie besides that there is a rumor going around that Vin Diesel will play the teams leader Black Bolt. This would be pretty funny considering Black Bolt rarely if ever speaks because his voice is so powerful it can destroy a mountain, and he voiced Groot who only says "I'm Groot."
Well that's what Marvel gave us and these next couple of years are going to be awesome and I can't wait to see every one of these movies. So what do you guys think? Is this a good line up, or is it maybe too ambitious? Let me know in the comments.
