The Girl of Steel is headed our way! Coming shortly after the announcement that a Supergirl series is under development at CBS, various news sources are now reporting that casting the titular super-heroine is already underway. With this news comes a heavy dose of super-info regarding the nature of the series!
Warner Bros. TV is currently looking for Caucasian females between the ages of 22 and 26 to play 24-year-old Kara Danvers, also known as Kara Zor-El of Krypton. In the series, Kara is rocketed from doomed Krypton at the age of 12, where she is discovered and adopted by the Danvers family, who raise her and keep her extraordinary powers a secret. After she is forced to use her abilities in public, Kara decides to embrace her gifts and use them to help others. The creators are also looking to cast her sister, Alex Danvers, a brilliant government scientist and expert in all things extra-terrestrial.
Those familiar with the Supergirl mythos will recognize the last name Danvers. Comic fans will remember that Linda Lee Danvers was the secret identity of pre-Crisis on Infinite Earth's Supergirl, and Linda Danvers the name of the Peter David/Gary Frank created Supergirl of the mid 90s. Whether the show will draw much inspiration from either Girls of Steel remains to be seen.
Supergirl is being developed by executive producers Greg Berlanti (Arrow), Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family) and Sarah Schechter and is to be produced by Warner Bros. TV.
