Destiny is bound to go down in history as one of the most unusual releases for the video game industry. The game is lacking in so many areas and I have repeatedly given out about its lack of contact and community options, yet I still find myself running around the crucible, doing strikes and attempting The Vault of Glass raid.
The game is so far from perfect, but it has enough great features to leave gamer's wanting more and more. But all of this aside, Destiny has, as Bungie are know to do, included some great easter eggs in their levels. How many of them have you come across?
It seems that Bungie are paying homage to their old hero. Now off living his life at 343 Industries, Bungie made sure to let him know they were thinking about him. You can see him as big as ever in a place that you've been several times. During the story mission The Garden's Spire on Mars. He's kind of hard to miss. Don't know how I didn't see it the first time, good old Master Chief.
No no, there's no reference to Kevin Spacey in this game at all, but we are quite familiar with Bungie's obsession with the number 7. Clearly they are tremendous fans of Fincher's work... Anyway, in Destiny, Bungie celebrate their day, July 7th, in the Tower. You can see 7 unexplained coins lying on the ground. Bungie acknowledges the existence of them, but fails to give us anymore information than that. Maybe one day we'll find out if they have a purpose.
The Loot Cave
I was gutted to have missed this place. I found out about its existence way too late. Now if you go to where it used to reside, you know what you find? A pile of bones, a communicating pile of bones! Yep, just touch it and it will speak to you. Nowhere near as great as what the cave had hidden within it before, but you know, it's still an easter egg.
I like to think of later generations of Destiny players who don't get the reference, and we'll have been there from the start with age old stories of what lay within.
Glitching into DLC areas
You've all probably heard the stories. Some players discovered some really difficult ways to access the as of yet unreleased content of extra DLC areas. They have carefully navigated ledges and other surfaces through well timed jumping or glitching and thus arriving into an area that is very much unfinished. Some players have been banned from the game due to these attempts, which really is ridiculous on Bungie's part. You put them there, not our fault!!
The End Credits
Did you know this? That Paul McCartney composed a song for Destiny? I sure as hell didn't!! Bungie mysteriously kept this hidden in the end credits of Destiny, which I recall sitting through hoping to get a better conclusion (didn't happen). But you've actually got to access the credits icon in the right hand side corner of your world map. Click on the icon and watch for a while and it'll start to play. Check it out here!
The Fan (not us)
This one is great fun and can be found in the Tower! Get a few friends to jump on the roof where the mailman sits and get them to sit or stand on the fan that's on the roof. Once they’re sitting, run to the top of the stairs beside that location and hit the switch to make them float into the air. An interesting way to pass the time to be sure! I like to the think the Guardian below is looking at them and thinking..."You F***ing morons."
Remember that opening that made no sense? Well, it was of course people making their expanse out into the universe, but at that time you were like, what the hell is this? Well the astronauts footprint that he leaves has something hidden within! You can see the Destiny logo imprinted into his shoe. A clever little easter egg but a very strangely designed shoe I must say!
A Destiny Easter Egg!
Bungie may have had the idea for Destiny for quite sometime. An easter egg in Halo 3: ODST was found in one of the many in-game advertising boards. The image has a picture of Earth with what appears to be "The Traveler" next to it. There is also text on the advertisement that says, "Destiny Awaits." That's pretty cool, clearly they had been thinking about leaving Master Chief behind for a long time. I guess a game like Destiny takes a very long time to plan!
Let me know if you know of any other easter eggs out there! Have you found the football and purple ball yet on the Tower? Go check it out ;)
