Marvel has been really sizzling this month and last week especially with its special announcement of all its Phase 3 movies to be coming out over the next few years. With Captain America Civil War (Cap America 3) and a Doctor Strange movie for 2016, [Guardians of the Galaxy 2](movie:1081113), Thor: Ragnarok (Thor 3), and Black Panther movies for 2017, Captain Marvel and The Inhumans for 2018, and finally a two-part Avengers 3 and 4 titled Avengers Infinity War Part 1 for 2018 and Avengers Infinity War Part 2 for 2019, who wouldn’t be excited? It really is a great time to be a comic book fan and movie fan and arguably more so now than ever before. I’m pretty sure that Marvel is about to make DC make a run for its money.

Now with all of these exciting announcements of the future Marvel Phase 3 movies including the start of Marvel’s cinematic version of its Civil War and Infinity War to be featured in the next two Avengers movies, I can’t help but wonder that is the direction of the Avengers team, along with the rest of Marvel’s cinematic universe, going to completely changing by start of Phase 3 or with the last Avengers Infinity War movie? With the recent release of Age of Ultron’s trailer hinting to us that The Avengers are due to be facing some pretty dark times ahead of them and already knowing that Tony Stark/Iron Man is about to butt heads with Steve Rogers/Captain America in the third Captain American movie coming up, it really does make one consider if things are going to be drastically changing in the MCU especially with The Avengers. I, for one suspect that there will be a new “head” of the Avengers by Phase 3. Although I don’t think their has ever been an official dub of who is the “head” of the current Avengers team in the MCU right now but Iron Man seems to come the closest to filling in that role. His credits include: having been the superhero to risk it all at the end of the first Avengers movie, playing a big part in trying to get SHIELD back together, and not to mention being the opposing force of Captain America in what will brew up the Civil War. That being said, I think Iron Man’s days as the unofficial “head” of the Avengers days are numbered. [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035)’s trailer gave us the first bitter taste of just how much the MCU is going to be turned on its own head and with new superheroes being introduced in their standalone films, I think it’s a safe bet to say that one of them will take on the mantle of the new head of the Avengers as well as at least half the roster of the Avengers team changing completely.

With Ant Man, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther all getting their own standalone movies soon, the team members of the Avengers are sure to be changed, axing out Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. That will leave [Black Widow](movie:1070824), Hulk, and Hawkeye being the “original” staples to the Avengers especially since none of them are getting standalone movies any time soon, and Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch since they are just being introduced now into the Avengers team. This is all speculation right now. I am 100% confident that Ant Man will enter the roster by Infinity War Part 1 or Avengers 3 the way some may call it. That leaves us to wonder amongst Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther, who will also step into Infinity War Part 1? Captain Marvel might be a little too early to come in since she’s not getting her own standalone movie until after Infinity War Part 1 releases and since there will be a part 2, I speculate that Marvel will probably want to save all of its superheroes for a super Avengers team by Infinity War Part 2/Avengers 4 when all of the heroes need to battle it out with Thanos to save the Earth. By that point the core of The Avengers team will probably look pretty different. My bets are between [Ant-Man](movie:9048), Doctor Strange, and Black Panther, any one these superheroes may become the new leader of The Avengers. I also speculate that Steve Rogers may even pass down his mantle of being the Cap to Falcon by the end of Phase 3, although that is just a prediction of mine right now and I have no sources to back it up. The reason I feel that Steve Rogers may end up giving up his role as Captain America over to Falcon may be because the events of the Civil War and Infinity War may just be too much for him emotionally and that he may face the reality that the world he was born into and learned how to protect is just not the same world he once knew anymore. What are your thoughts on Marvel Phase 3 and Avengers 3 and 4? And do you think that Captain America’s role will switch over to Falcon by the end of Phase 3?
