Things surrounding the upcoming Avengers 2: Age of Ultron just keep getting more interesting. This past weekend, it was reported that the anticipated sequel will see the return of two Asgardians. The report state that Heimdall (Idris Elba) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) will be making an appearance in Avengers 2 Age of Ultron. Both characters were last seen in the film [Thor: The Dark World](movie:206462), and it seemed like we would not be seeing either Loki or Heimdall until the next Thor film. However, with this new report, that is no longer case. Though seeing both characters will be great, the question that needs to be asked is what kind of role could these two characters be playing in the 2015 blockbuster?

Obviously, Loki and Heimdall will be playing minor roles in the film. This seems reminiscent to the 2012 film as The Avengers featured important characters; such as Pepper Potts and Jane Foster (though her appearance was just a photo). Then again, featuring characters from Asgard presents a different matter. Asgard works outside the affairs of Earth, and with Ultron centering on Midgard , having the eternal realm at all in the film is quite surprising; especially if there is a scene in Asgard.

Another thing to wonder is what could Loki and Heimdall be doing in their scene(s)? Well Heimdall is not hard to figure out as will likely be watching the events from Earth with his omnipotent sight. So the bigger question here is what is Loki doing? The last time we saw the god of mischief, he was (spoiler alert) ruling Asgard under the guise of Odin. Could Loki be up to something or maybe he too is watching the events of Avengers 2 Age of Ultron? Loki would no doubt love to watch the Avengers be destroyed, but given how the character acts, he have something planned for his brother.

Last, and certainly not least, is how does the appearance of Loki and Heimdall effect Thor? With the Mighty Avenger's next film, [Thor: Ragnarok](movie:956858), being announced last week, perhaps the two characters' involvement ties in to the 2017 film. Thor will have to return in Asgard. If the Avenger is not their by the end of Avengers 2 Age of Ultron, he will definitely return at the start of Ragnarok.

Right now, the scene of Loki and Heimdall could deal with a number of things. However, whether the two Asgardian are in the film to set for Ragnarok or just be there for a cameo, one thing is clear: Age of Ultron just got a little bigger. Plus fans will no doubt be pleased to see Loki again.

Avengers 2: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1, 2015.
