We first saw Elijah Wood's career-making performance as Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, where we followed his journey to destroy The One Ring. Which it why it was so touching when he popped up again in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
But, unfortunately, that all ends there. Wood has commented that he will not be reprising his Hobbity role for the final installment in Peter Jackson's franchise. The One Ring fan website is saying that Elijah "confirmed" on "UK television" that he will not be appearing in the final Hobbit film.
So, that means that An Unexpected Journey was THE LAST TIME we will ever see Frodo on the big screen. YOU KNOW HOW SAD THAT SOUNDS!?
That said, last year's The Desolation of Smaug benefited from having fewer "link backs" to the Lord of the Rings franchise, and there really is no reason I can think of to shoehorn Elijah into PJ's final flick without good reason. What d'you think?
Are you sad about not seeing Frodo in the final installment of The Hobbit trilogy?
