We all know that 2015 is just around the corner, but what you might not know is that 2015 is going to be the most epic year in movie history! I am going to go over these movies, showing the must see movies, the horror movies, the ones that are the icing on the cake, and then the movies for parents. I'm not giving out any plot details on these movies, so you don't have to worry about any spoilers, but I did attach trailers that are available if you want to learn a little more about some of them.
The Must See Movies
Let's start off with the obvious, shall we?
AVENGERS 2: Age of Ultron
You don't have to know much about movies to know this might be the most anticipated movie in history! The first Avengers movie was the most fun at the movie theater in 2012, and destroyed the box office as it went on to gross over 1.5 BILLION worldwide. If you've seen the trailer for Age of Ultron you probably are as excited as the rest of the world for this movie. If you haven't seen it yet, you can check out the extended trailer here!
Star Wars Episode VII
If you have ever read any of my other posts on Moviepilot you would know that I am not too high on the Star Wars prequels, but Star Wars has a very special place in my heart and I could not be more excited for Episode VII! Now that Disney owns the Star Wars universe, who knows what we'll see. I just hope it'll be better than the Episode I, II, and III.
The Divergent Series: Insurgent
Is there anybody hotter out there than Shailene Woodley? Perhaps J-Law, but to me they are both the Hollywood "it" girls right now. Not to mention they are both scheduled for major blockbuster movies based on novels that are going to drop in 2015. I'd be the first to say that Divergent was nothing spectacular, but after seeing how much better Catching Fire was than the original Hunger Games, I have extremely high hopes that this sequel will get the same treatment.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2
Speaking of J-Law, Mockingjay - Part 1 is just around the corner, but it isn't too soon to talk about the sequel. Most of the time when books are split into two (or three) movies, the second (or third) one is usually the best. We saw it with Harry Potter, and yes, even the Twilight series. Catching Fire was phenomenal, and I cannot wait for the Mockingjay movies. Since the trailer isn't out for part two, I'll leave the trailer for part one here!
The Fantastic Four Reboot
Something in my gut tells me that this movie is going to be awesome! I don't know why. Perhaps because I am a fan of the movies main stars: Miles Teller and Micheal B Jordan. Perhaps because it couldn't be any worse than the original. They have already signed on for a sequel well before this movie is even in theaters, so I must say, I am intrigued. I will definitely be checking out this movie when it comes out in the spring of 2015.
Fifty Shades of Grey
I have never read the book, and I might not see the movie. But... there is a reason these novels made more money than the Harry Potter novels. It has a huge fan base, and it will definitely be one of the top grossing movies in 2015. Some viewer discretion is advised for the trailer that you can see here!
Fast and Furious 7
After the tragic death of Paul Walker, this is surely to be the last ride. I think these movies are so fun, and always a must see. It will be sad to see it go. R.I.P. Paul Walker! It has a really awesome trailer that you can check out here!
Mission Impossible 5
There have already been four impossible missions and they've all been accomplished. I'm guessing this one will be the same predictable, albeit action packed, movie. This movie obviously doesn't have a trailer yet, but this picture of Tom Cruise literally hanging off a plane should help get you hyped up.
I have been waiting a long time for this! I love all of these movies, yes, even the third one. The only way I'd be happier is if there was a Jaws reboot in 2015. No trailer yet on this one, but I'll keep my eyes peeled!
This was a tough one to place, but at the end of the day Arnold is back. Growing up Terminator 2 & 3 were a couple of my favorite movies. If they try to make it fun, and not all Transformer style like the past few, then this is definitely a must see. I've got high hopes.
007 is back again! Daniel Craig has signed on to play the super spy, and with Skyfall being a success, we can expect great things out of this one as well.
I'm always game for a great horror flick. If you are too, then 2015 is the year for you. Be sure to check out the terrifying trailers that are available!
The Woman in Black: Angel of Death
The first film had its moments, but was overall a let down. One can only hope the second one ups the ante. The trailer is pointing in the right direction! You can check it out here!
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension
Every time I think I'm out they pull me back in! Paranormal Activity movies have been getting old for a while, but for some reason I keep heading to the theater to see them. All I can do is hope that this one is somehow different than the last 5 or 12 or however many there are.
Insidious: Chapter 3
This is without a doubt the best horror series out right now! Insidious was terrifying, Insidious Chapter 2 was not as scary, but was great it its own right. I can only expect great things out of the third installment. This trailer should get your blood pumping, check it out here!
The original gave me nightmares when I was young and a reboot is well overdue. Hopefully it does the original justice!
Sinister was so scary there was no doubt in my mind they would be bringing back Mr. Boogie. Add this with Insidious 3 and 2015 is shaping up to be pretty darn scary! No trailer yet on this one, but check back in a month or two.
Friday the 13th reboot
I don't know how I feel about this. Slasher reboots have been consistently horrible. Rob Zombie's Halloween 1 and 2, and the new Nightmare on Elm Street were terrible! Oh, and did I mention Friday the Thirteenth in 2009? I have my fingers crossed that this movie will surprise me.
The Icing on the Cake
And to top it all off, we have the movies that may not make you want to rush to the theaters, but will definitely be worth a look for the rabid movie goers.
After the second film there's no way I'm going to say this is a must see, but I also think that there is potential here. I love the first one, second one was lukewarm, and I fear the third one is just a cash grab. You should check the reviews before rushing off to see this movie. Check out the trailer here!
The trailer alone makes this movie interesting enough to check out, and Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis are going to attract some fans, but this doesn't seem like a "can't miss" movie. If you haven't seen the trailer, you should check it out here!
Hot Tub Time Machine 2
Not exactly sure why they are making a sequel, but the first one had a few funny moments. Trick your friend into seeing this movie and ask them how it was before heading to the theater. This trailer was red band, so you'll have to sign in to YouTube to confirm your age before you watch. Obviously viewer discretion is advised. Check it out here!
Disney continues to make live-action movies of the cartoons we loved as children. None have been particularly great so far, but this one might be worth a peek. The teaser trailer is really cool, check it out here!
Pitch Perfect 2
Pitch Perfect was hilarious! Its not for everyone, but if you liked the first one then this one should be on you must see list. Hopefully the trailer will be out soon!
This one is along the same lines as Pitch Perfect 2. If you enjoyed the first installment, this one is worth a look. If you didn't, well then, save the money and go see Avengers again.
Magic Mike XXL
Again, if you liked the first one, you should probably like this one as well.
This movie has a star studded cast, and I have very, very high hopes. Not much info is out right now on this Peter Pan remake, but it's a borderline must see.
The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials
The first one was decent. All we can hope for is the Hunger Games treatment, where the sequel is substantially better.
Robert De Niro and Zach Efron in a comedy together? If you liked Neighbors you'll probably want to check this one out.
Kingsman: The Secret Service
This could turn into a must see very, very fast. I feel like this could be the refreshing hit of 2015. Check out the trailer here!
Marvel has made a lot of good movies, especially recently. Captain America 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy were fantastic. Age of Ultron will be great! But I'm weary of Ant-Man considering Captain America, Thor and Thor 2, and Iron Man 2 and 3 were entertaining, but hardly must sees. Read some reviews and ask around before rushing to see this one.
For the Parents
If you have little ones and that's the only way that you can make it to the theater, don't worry, 2015 has the movies for you!
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water
Spongebob is on its last leg and this feels like this is a cash grab, but if your kid loves the series you'll have to take them to see this one. Check out the trailer here!
Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2
Kevin James and Raini Rodriguez might be worth seeing, especially if you have tweeners. If you have kids between 8 and 12 this might be your most painless expierience at the theater.
B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherwordly Operations
It has a promising title. I'm expecting a Turbo-esque movie. Cute, but nothing too special.
It's a Pixar movie, so one can assume its going to be good, even though Pixar movies have been slipping slightly over the years. The trailer is promising, and you can see for yourself right here!
Out of all the movies my daughter watches over and over and over and over again, Dispicable Me and its sequel are two of my favorites. This is a movie that will surely keep you entertained with the little ones. Check out the trailer here!
An official Goosebumps movie could really scare the kids. Oh, what fun! No trailer yet, but Jack Black is going to be part of the cast.
Hotel Transylvania 2
The first one was charming, funny, and most importantly better than expected. My daughter and I will definitely be seeing this movie when Halloween 2015 rolls around.
The Good Dinosaur
Apparently Pixar is going to be dropping two movies in 2015. And to make it better, they are both original movies, and not sequels (Finding Dory will be released in 2016). No official trailer release yet, but there's some art from the creators here!
Kung Fu Panda 3
The Kung Fu Panda is awesome! Both films and the television series are a lot of fun, and the third movie should add another great chapter to the light-hearted kid movies.
