Thats right, Nicolas Winding Refn officially has released the name of his forthcoming horror film entitled , The Neon Demon.
"One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty,” said Refn about the origins of the film. “After making ‘Drive’ and falling madly in love with the electricity of Los Angeles, I knew I had to return to tell the story of ‘The Neon Demon'."
While exact details on what the film is about are still unknown other than it may revolve around a female character, the tagline gives us our only clue for now..."The wicked die young". Refn is on record for saying he realized he wanted to be much more than a director when he first saw the 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which also became a quick favorite of his. After seeing how effective this movie came across unlike no other he's ever seen, he knew he could also write, produce and even edit on top of directing thru this new found inspiration.
With support from previous backings, French companies Gaumont and Wild Bunch will be again co-financing and distributing the film while production is to start early next year here in Los Angeles.
With Drive having had been filmed in LA already, Refn is quite fond of the city due in large part to its plentiful bright neon signs that spread across the night and the fascination he gets from them.
For those who have already seen Drive then you know the color schemes we may expect from this, especially if you saw his most previous work, the beautifully shot Only God Forgives. Even if we don't know the story yet, we're in for a visual trip none the less.
