There was a time - dark and upsetting as it was - that the number was almost up for The Hateful Eight. Thankfully, after having a quiet word with himself following that script leak, Quentin Tarantino’s western is slowly trudging along the cinematic trail and it if reports are to believed, might be picking Channing Tatum up along the way.
News from Deadline reveals that the Jump Street and Foxcatcher front man has his eye on a ‘major role’ for QT’s next picture and should he sign off on it all, will be joining an already eclectic cast consisting of Jennifer Jason Leigh, Zoe Bell, Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, Dana Gourrier, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Madsen, Denis Menochet, James Parks, James Remar, Tim Roth and Kurt Russell.
Set to start filming in January, The Hateful Eight is set a few years after the American Civil War, on a snowy night in Wyoming. Sent off its trail due to harsh weather condition, the stagecoach and its passengers hold up in a bar until the coast is clear. Although when said passengers happen to be a couple of bounty hunters, a confederate soldier and a female prisoner, the coast will be anything but.
It’d be an interesting addition to Tarantino’s already high calibre class of talent that are set to appear, and one whose recent endeavours prove he could handle it. Not only does Tatum have his name down for various films (including a Gambit solo film), he’s also getting a fair bit of Oscar buzz alongside Steve Carrell for Foxcatcher as well. He’ll also be making a number of men feel immensely inferior yet again with Magic Mike XXL, as well. Hurrah. Yay. Etc, etc.
What do you think? Do you like the idea of letting the star Channing all over Tarantino’s Tatum’s? Did that sentence even make a lick of sense? Thoughts and detailed explanations below, if you fancy it.
