Based on the 1974 film of the same name, 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' director Rupert Wyatt has put faith and his best foot forward in casting Oscar nominee and lovable hot shot Mark Wahlberg to rejuvenate James Caan's role of the predisposed high roller in Karel Reisz's original crime drama.

Formerly reported of Leonardo DiCaprio playing the lead, [The Gambler](movie:581011) (2014) soon took a swift turn in favor of Wahlberg to play Jim Bennett, equipped with scruffy 70's hair and about two million in cash entrapped in the vicious sphere of betting, greediness and gangsters, forced to entertain the phrase 'The only way out, is all in'.

Originally the redrafting project was set up for award winning director Martin Scorsese, expecting to team up again with fellow 'The Departed' star DiCaprio, however after early criticism of the remake from former screenwriter of the 1974 production, James Toback, Scorsese decided to abandon ship. We could have been in line for another gritty and classically refined drama from one of the greats, instead we wonder in dubiety over Wyatt's capability after the direction of only two major films.

Already an Oscar award hopeful, with support from legendary actors Jessica Lange and John Goodman, we hope The Gambler (2014) will remit the fast pace lifestyle of the gambling world and have audiences holding their breath with each of Marky Mark's stakes.

The Gambler (2014) will expand to theaters January 1st, 2015
