Awhile back I posted a Top Ten Movies list and promised to give a Top Ten T.V. series list as well. Well here it is! A little later than I originally hoped to write it, but hey, I'm a college student.
I feel it's way harder to come up with a top ten T.V. series than a top ten movies list. There are just so many good shows out there! If you hadn't noticed from my movies list, I'm kind of a Fantasy/Period Piece/ SciFi nerd. The theme is no different in my favorite T.V. shows. Hang on though, just because you may not be into Fantasy, Period Pieces, and SciFi, doesn't mean there isn't a hidden gem in here somewhere!
The list goes in no particular order...but it's no coincidence this is #1....
1. Xena Warrior Princess
For one, Lucy Lawless is an amazing actress and she is amazing in person! I met her at the New York Comic Con this year. She called me beautiful and I nearly fainted. <3
Besides my obvious lady crush on Lucy, the show is the embodiment of female strength and the late 90s-2000s. Back when a 'superhero' didn't have to be dark and serious all the time. One thing that's really stood out about the show was the 'bra-mance' (bromance except for girls...get it?). You might be scratching your head a bit with this one but if you really think about it... Women don't fight alongside women much on T.V.. It's mostly women fighting women.

2. Game of Thrones
Of course this made the list. How could it not? Fantasy, dragons, political intrigue, and zombies (yeah, yeah, they're called White Walkers). Although, I will admit I am a avid book reader and I'm getting a little scared at the HBO treatment the series is getting. It's starting to look like it's getting the 'True Blood' treatment. True Blood would have originally made this list but after season 3, it would make my top ten most hated series. Before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, I don't mind adaptions having changes. Truly, I wasn't upset with Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings changes (well, maybe a little disappointed but not to the point I didn't enjoy the film!). But HBO... Oh HBO, they took the characters from True Blood and that's about as close to the books as it gets...and even the character's aren't really portrayed correctly!
Just in case you didn't know, as far as casting goes... Looks like Arianne Martell (one of my favorite 'point of view' characters) isn't joining the next season like she should be. Click here to see what could have been awesome.
3. The Tudors
Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived. The Tudors follows Henry VIII's life and his many wives. Jonathan Rhys Meyers makes an amazing Henry VIII. If you love Game of Thrones, Natalie Dormer plays the seductive Anne Boleyn. Also, many seemed to forget that Henry Cavill was an actor before Superman. He plays Henry VIII's best friend.
This one is kind of a shock but I didn't like Merlin at first. I watched the first episode a few years back and thought it was terrible. I was wrong. I was very wrong. The pilot episode is cheesy and Katie McGrath was obviously in need of some acting lessons but this show grows on you. The banter between Merlin and Prince Arthur is hilarious. Their bromance is inspirational and the cast as the seasons pass gets better and better. Colin Morgan has some serious charisma and cheekbones to rival Benedict Cumberbatch's. If you have Netflix, I highly recommend getting lost in this series and DON"T let the first episode throw you off. It's well worth it.
5. The Last Airbender / The Legend of Korra
Is it cheating to group these two together? Probably, but I see them as a continuation of each other. Honestly, they are both fantastic in their own rights. Though they might be a kids show on Nick, they are equally fantastic for adults to watch. I personally love watching the series with my niece and nephew.
Now if only we could get the movies remade... I have a few ideas for that here.
6. Dark Angel
This show was creative and amazing! You really can't go wrong with a butt kicking Jessica Alba. I can't believe this show got cancelled. I have to confess, I didn't watch the last episode on purpose because if I don't watch it, that means it didn't really end...right? If you love butt kicking female leads, post apocalyptic worlds, and government conspiracy, this show is for you!
7. Star Trek: The Next Generation
I'm just going to say ( despite the geek hate to follow), Jean Luc Picard was the best Star Trek captain. He was! Yes, I've watched the original and I half heartily watched the others too, but this series is where it hits home. My favorite characters are all in this season, all of which are in the picture above, minus 'Q' and a few others.
Just to prove my love for Star Trek...
Resistance is futile...
Why, yes, I love to live dangerously.
8. Battlestar Galactica
If I thought the cast and crew from Star Trek: TNG was great... This cast blew me out of the water. This show is The Terminator meets Star Trek. Which just equates to awesomeness. And one other thing... STARBUCK!!!!
Starbuck, played by Katee Sackhoff. Who, by the way, would make a fantastic Captain Marvel.
9. North & South
Like Thorin Oakinshield (Richard Armitage) from The Hobbit? Well, he's downright amazing in this rendition of North & South. Love a good period piece romance? This series is for you and quickly available on Netflix! Another good period piece similar to this is The Paradise. It didn't make the list only because it was beat out by North & South.
10. The 100
A female led SciFi that is also interesting for men to watch? Who would have thought! This is another amazing post apocalyptic series that has you on your toes every episode and it's barely on season two! Just when you thought you knew where the series was headed...BAM
Just because a show didn't make this list doesn't mean they aren't awesome. I am after all a huge T.V. show junkie. There are many honorable mentions such as, Arrow, Reign, The White Queen, The Paradise, Hercules, The Borgias, Stargate series, Inuyasha, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Vikings, Defiance, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and Spartacus.
A few guilty pleasures are Gossip Girl, 90210, The Vampire Diaries, and The Originals.
Lastly, there are plenty of awesome comedies that I enjoy, The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, South Park, Cougar Town, How I Met Your Mother, Raising Hope, and Suburgatory.
How did you like the list? Have any recommendations for future shows to watch? I'd love to hear your suggestions below!
