Arguably, the sequel always sucks. Most people get the feeling they don't want to watch the sequel because it wont be that good or it'll ruin the first one for them. The expectations are typically low given the streak of bad sequels in movie history. But as fans, we're always curious! With the new sequel to Dumb and Dumber hitting theaters on Friday November 14th, aptly named Dumb and Dumber To, people are wondering if they should watch the sequel! Here we are at the crossroads of 'to watch or not to watch'.

The Dumb and Dumber franchise fueled the momentum of Jim Carrey's comedy career in his role as Lloyd Christmas alongside his partner in crime Harry Dunne starring Jeff Daniels. The theme of two friends getting into the most ridiculous situations makes for the most over the top, outrageous jokes. Plus their crazy and dumb antics make it so much fun to watch.

Dumb and Dumber To picks it up right where they left off 20 years ago! This feel-good comedy takes you on a hilarious brotherly journey with lots of laughs and faceplams along the way. Definitely a nostalgic film for the fans of the Farrelly Bros, Carrey and Daniels! And now you might still be thinking...but the first one was so funny, is it worth it?! Think about all the sequels in comedy franchises history. It's the legacy of jokes from each film (there would be too many to list) that make them great watches!

Here are five comedies that knew what they had, and delivered big the second time around:

The Duos:

  • Harold and Kumar

Who could forget these two bros. From White Castle to Guantanamo Bay to Christmas specials! These characters of Roldy and Kumar were so memorable that I had to follow their series, plus what would NPH do?

  • Men in Black

Kay and Jay

Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith starred in three Men in Black films. With all their intergalactic adventures, they still have their sense of humor!

  • Rush Hour

Lee and Carter

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. This duo knows how to make the audience laugh, the first and second movie were better in my opinion but I"m still a fan of the whole franchise. War, huh, what is it good for?

  • 21 Jump Street

Schmidt and Jenko

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in the Jump Street Franchise have been a huge hit. SO HUGE that they could have more sequels undercover in almost anything you can think of. 23 Jump Street to 2121 Jump Street..

  • Dumb and Dumber

Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels makes a comeback with a sequel after 20 years (man years & movie years). Standing the test of time, they're back and dumber than ever! But, no spoilers here!

The 4 Man Packs:

Goofball comedies, action comedies, straight up classic comedy. These aren't franchises but they pack a hearty laugh, good for the soul! Now I wish White Chicks or Step Brothers came out with a sequel..

  • Ghostbusters

  • Hangover

  • Anchorman

What is your favorite comedy franchise?

If you're a fan of Dumb and Dumber, Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels or if you're just looking for a good laugh, I'd definitely recommend it! It's a fun sequel! Not all sequels are made to top the first, sometimes its just for the fans.

Check out Dumb and Dumber To in theaters tomorrow, Friday November 14th!
