Recently, in an Interview with Playboy? Yeah, with Playboy... actor Joaquin Phoenix, talks for the first time about the rumors of his talks with film industry bigshot Marvel Studios about potentially playing the part of [Doctor Strange](movie:559685), a hero traditionally in the comics who joins the Avengers. While it is the first time we've heard anything from the man himself, he's still not letting anything major slip through.
"I can’t talk about it. I’ve met on all sorts of movies throughout the years. What seems appealing about some of them is the idea of pushing myself in a way that’s out of my comfort zone. But really, it’s what I’m always looking for - good characters, big ideas and a passionate filmmaker. If those things line up with any kind of movie, I have interest in it."
This statement all on its own seems to be a backlash from the rumors that made their rounds claiming the actor got cold feet due to the amount of CGI reliance pushing him out of his comfort zone. If he indeed has been talked to about the film, does this mean he's saying he feels the project lacks good characters, big ideas, or a passionate filmmaker? Or is this his way of complementing Marvel by saying they have these and that's why he was in talks in the first place? Some things, the world may never know.
"There’s only one movie I regret saying no to - except the person who ended up doing it was so good and was absolutely meant to do it, so I don’t have any regrets. I’m not going to say which one, but it was a really big hit. It’s getting to the point where they’re making some pretty decent movies. I thought Iron Man was fantastic."
Why he decided to share that he thought Iron Man was fantastic leads many to believe he could've actually been offered the part of Iron Man. What are your thoughts?
