If you haven't read the comics or are caught up with the show then... This Post is not for you!
Not for the easily Offended.
Before we begin i must clarify this post is just my opinion and theories Ive come up with based on the Comics, Spoilers and leaks flying around the web.
Feel free to leave your thoughts bellow in the comment section! :)
OK, so we can all start this by agreeing on the fact that Maggie clearly thinks Beth is Dead.
There's simply no other reason for the lack of interest in looking for her sister, at first after the fall of the prison our group was scattered in different directions and Maggie started looking for Glenn, which was completely understandable since he is her husband and all and of course because we got this scene:
After she had her break down on the bus when she thought that walker was Glenn and i think she lost hope when she saw ALL of the people that was on the bus dead and... let me just stop for a second cause i have to address this, lets talk about that bus for a second.
I would like to know how a bus FULL OF PEOPLE couldn't handle the maybe 2 or 3 people-turned-walker because, really, that's the only reason for all of them to be dead, someone died from a stray bullet or illness, turned and attacked the idiot next to them and so on, but you mean to tell me that, this whole bus left the prison without ANY weapon to defend themselves and the sick that were with them, they didn't have a gun, knife, a stick or hell A PEN to stab them in the eye!? But anyways, that's that, so let's move on..
SO when Maggie started leaving messages for Glenn to go to Terminus, some were surprised that she didn't add Beth's name on the signs but we let it slide cause she was in love all that jazz but it started rumors that Maggie didn't think Beth could survive the prison fall or on her own, so this started to get some Beth fans (myself included) a bit upset and its true, i mean come on... she's your sister.
So while everyone was separated and after Maggie found Glenn, we were all waiting on that Beggie reunion so that Beth could rub her survival on Maggie's face but sadly that didn't happen because Beth's kidnapping, which made some think that Beth was #Screwed and leaving us with the worst cliffhanger in history: Who took Beth? For seven long months we waited and waited and waited, plotting a million theories about who took her, where she could be and about what was going on at Terminus.
And lets be honest for a second and admit that the reason why we all wanted to know what happened to Beth is because she is basically the typical damsel in distress and we were all dying to know what horrible fate the ZA world have in store for a girl as pretty as Beth (Theories went from her being BethBQ at Terminus, to being taken by Father Gabriel to the worst one, that she was turned into some sort of sex slave for whoever took her ew!) and if you think about it really we weren't that wrong.
According to Wikipedia:
"Slabtown or Slab Town was a red-light district established in Atlanta in the 1840s, and located off Decatur Street (on the present site of Grady Memorial Hospital).
Largely built with abandoned concrete plates used in construction, called slabs. This wicked development was of great annoyance to the good citizens of Atlanta, as crimes were often committed there, and many of the young men fell into bad habits from frequenting Slab Town. In these places, occurred scenes of debauchery and indecency that shocked the moral sense of the community ."
So she IS in a pretty shitty place and Officer McPervy here made it his personal mission to terrorize and have his way with Beth.
Finally season 5 arrives and is very fast paced compared to the slow pace of S4B, dealing with Terminus, introducing Father Gabriel and getting rid of Garreth and his gang in the first 3 episodes in a "Wham! Bam! Thank you Ma'am!" Style.
Also being the first season that has followed the comics the most, with a few changes of course, so with such a busy opening is understandable that Maggie would be focused in surviving but after Garreth was taken cared off we wondered if Maggie will talk about Beth, seeing as she was reunited with most of her family at Terminus, we HEARD rather than saw Maggie speaking with Daryl who told her what happened and reaffirmed her that Beth IS alive.
Now ill be the first to admit that the more Maggie went on without mentioning Beth the more pissed off i got! I was baffled by the fact that Maggie over protected Beth since day 1 and more after her suicide attempt and for her to write her off like that made me furious at her, i understand that she didn't have a clue where she was but she could have make stops along the road and leave signs for her like she did for Glenn "BETH, GO TO VIRGINIA, SAFE PLACE, MAGGIE" or something but no, i thought of her as selfish and self centered, she got on that bus and left to DC and that just left me like:
During the Talking Dead after 5x4: “Slabtown” episode of The Walking Dead, Chris Hardwick asked Emily Kinney why she thought that Beth’s sister Maggie hadn’t set out to look for her.
“I don’t know. I think Maggie is just focused on surviving,” said Kinney. “They’ve all been through a lot and lost a lot of people, and I think she’s just really focused on what she needs to do at the moment. So that’s why…she hasn’t really had a lot of time to like go…”
Now, this was nothing but HER OPINION since she doesn't know for sure, most actors don't know whats going on with their character till they get the script, so Maggie's sudden change from over protective sister to Beth who? Must be for a reason cause the writers must know we would notice her lack of interest but what Emily is stating here just adds up to my reason as to why Maggie is acting the way she has.
Yes she's been focusing on surviving but after the 2nd episode, that was it, they weren't running anymore, they were just going to decide their next step till Abraham Threw a tantrum over DC and Glenn had to go and offered them up for the DC trip and to be honest after Abraham helped them with Garreth, Maggie and Glenn could have backed off and not leave with him, i mean what was he going to do? Drag them to the bus? but i guess Glenn is a man of his word like he said but Maggie was just so robotic, she just got in the bus, when Tara told her who she was she didn't react, her face was blank, she masked her feelings and worried about Tara's and the reason didn't hit me until last Sunday's episode 5x5: Self Help
Maggie went through a lot and she didn't have a lot of time to grieve she dealt with it in a "Ain't nobody got time for dat" way, she allowed herself to have a little meltdown in the bus but after that it was just go go go trying to put away the fact that she witnessed her dad's beheading, her sister was taken by god knows who, she thought she lost the man she loved and then she was locked in a container thinking she was going to die at Terminus, after she saw how horrible people can be it broke her and i realized...
Maggie is Depressed.
OK, Hear me out, this is ONE of [The Walking Dead](series:201193) theories at least.
Since we caught a whiff of Andrew Lincoln's "Dolphin Smooth" face and nice trimmed hair, it could only mean one thing:
They made it to ALEXANDRIA SAFE ZONE!
The Alexandria Safe-Zone is a few blocks of cleared streets in Alexandria, Virginia, about six miles from Washington, D.C. surrounded by walls and its the place the group has lived the longest so far in the comics.
Remember in "SlabTown" when Beth was speaking with Noah and he said his dad and him were headed to Virginia and that they had walls, this was a hint towards ASZ and since Noah got to escape the hospital he is more than likely to be the person in the bushes behind Daryl at the end of episode 5x3, he will tell them about Virginia and the DC trip will change to head to ASZ, now that Eugene's cat is out of the bag.
So in the comics, when the group is on the road looking for shelter before they come across with Aaron who takes them to ASZ they stop on the road and then this happens:
BOOM! Say what..
I KNOW RIGHT?!!
Now, since the show has already used the failed suicide attempt with Beth and i doubt they would repeat it, i think they will still use the depressed story line, Maggie feels guilty for leaving the group behind with Daryl and Carol gone and that's just adding up to what i think, that deep down she feels responsible for Beth not being able to make it on her own due to her over protectiveness (Not after Daryl trained her! #BadAssBeth)
There has been rumors that there might be a Death in the MSF and people have their bets on it being Beth, now if this happens (I'm praying it doesn't) i think this would be the drop that breaks the camels back and Maggie will lose it, according to the comics, the beginning of her depression starts now while on the road, knowing the show they will probably add a twist to it.
The other theory is that Maggie could be pregnant.
This doesn't happen till they make it to ASZ and Maggie only realizes her state after -spoiler- Glenn is beaten to death by Negan but the show still have a long way to go for that to happen and it might not even happen that way knowing the writers, Me, personally, I'm DYING to find out more about how the hospital showdown is going to happen and who were going to lose.
I'm still mad at Maggie, i understand how she must be feeling but still, pretending you're an only child is not OK in my book, if there was a chance that the last family member i have might be alive i would move heaven and earth to find them cause after all, like Merle said, Blood is Blood and Beth is the only family she has left and for her to neglect her like that is just very un-maggie like, so whatever they decide to do i hope they address this, i demand an explanation for this behavior, whether its that shes depressed, pregnant or crazy, i want to know!
