Everyone and their Marvel-loving aunt will no doubt have blown the thin layer of dust off their Civil War stack of comics, following the House of Ideas' announcement last month that they’d be adapting said story-arc for the Captain America threequel. After analyzing every frame closely to figure out how the Russos will be adapting a Spider-Man-centric story to a wall-crawlerless world, chances are you’ll have to go over it all again now, after the news that Inglorious Basterds star Daniel Brühl just joined the cast in an as yet unspecified (but positively evil) role.

Brühl is no stranger to butting heads with MCU alumni, having already starred opposite part-time god of thunder Chris Hemsworth in the James Hunt/Niki Lauda story Rush. It’s that sort of relentless rivalry that Marvel picked up on and looks forward to be dishing out to Steve Rogers in full force when [Captain America: Civil War](movie:994409) begins. Chances are as well that Brühl could be causing problems for Doctor Strange, if Variety’s sources hold any truth as well.

Following the announcement, the trade has got wind that while he won’t be the top bad guy in Civil War, there’s a chance Brühl will be moving higher up the hit-list for Doctor Strange...who may or may not, but definitely should star Benedict Cumberbatch. If all goes to plan that’ll mean a nice catch-up after their sharing the screen in The Fifth Estate as well, right before they battle across dimensions via mystic arts and lots of hocus-pocus. Magic.

Following the events of [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035), Civil War will see shield-wielding hero Steve Rogers getting under the noses of a number of people, including Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), who will probably have a few words to say, and highly-charged fist to throw at our leading man. The film will also mark the debut of Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, who is set to get his own solo gig in 2017.

Keeping in line with the facts so far though, Marvel said in its official statement that, “with Daniel's ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes.” They've got themselves a point there. While the F1 film Rush did depend on both Brühl and Hemsworth to steer the drama into a fairly impressive direction, Brühl was certainly the one doing most of the driving in what was a great performance. Here’s hoping he brings that sort of standard to the comic book show when Civil War breaks out April 29, 2016 in the U.K. and shortly after in the U.S. on May 6. The question is, who’s he going to play?

Here’s where I ask for various words of wisdom from you fellow MoviePilot members, as I can’t see where Brühl will fit in the MCU at the moment, can you? ComicBook.com has a nice little list of potentials (Baron Mordo was my guess) but who do you think/would you like to see Brühl play? Answer on a postcard or in the comments below.
