Square Enix were very quiet about Final Fantasy 15 for a long time, but as of late, they've been giving fans exactly what they wanted. Their latest video of how the world in Final Fantasy XV looked was really extraordinary, demonstrating a level of graphics and exploration that we may not yet be familiar with, certainly on consoles anyway.
But their latest nugget of information came in the Final Fantasy XV tech demo, showing off what appears to be a model of the world map used for 3D scanning. Let me say, if this is the map, we are in for a serious time. Let's see what we can dig out of this map and whether it contains any secrets or allusions to what might be coming up in Sqaure Enix's game.
Final Fantasy XV and its Map
So there she is. Now, naturally Square Enix have not yet confirmed whether this is indeed the map for Final Fantasy 15, though it seems highly likely. But what can we derive from its appearance, aside from size and beauty?
One of the most prominent features of the map is the large gulf with what definitely seems to be a city in the middle and around it (it’s very visible because the color of the water is lavender-ish). That’s Accordo, the beautiful Venice-like City we’ve seen in previous trailers. really, like this image is actually unbelievable, can't get over the level of design.
Now, in order to gauge the size of the map, we can use this here fella as a guide. Take a look at the crater or depression that surrounds the building in the above picture. Can you locate it on the map? It’s very small, but it can be noticed in a brighter colour. You can see it in the alcove in the map above on the bottom left, well, more centre left.
So naturally, this hints at the fact that this map is insanely large, with an abundance of varying locations. The areas topography suggest this map will give players a world of ever changing heights and temperatures, from the sunny hot desert, to the twisting whirlpool, to the highest peak of the giant mountains, this map may just be fighting against the scale of Skyrim.
The land also appears to have been damaged a number of times by the sky. The ground is filled with enormous craters that suggest the falling of comets years before. It's very difficult to see with these images, but there is even a mountain that appears to have had a section of it blown apart by one of these comets.
Now just imagine this world running in full motion. All of the gears are in place and you are dropped into a map of this size, then combine that with what we saw in the previous Final Fantasy video. Just imagine those graphics as you drive through this area in your amazing car with options and side quests surrounding you.
With all of this to look forward to, this really could be one of the greatest Final Fantasy games in years, those who haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet, you are seriously going to miss out!
