As a committed Joss Whedon fan, I'm always beyond excited to find a personal talk with him, especially if he's dropping nuggets and secrets and cool little stories.

The hardest-working man in Hollywood took time out of his busy schedule to offer advice to five aspiring writers (which you can read more of here) on how to craft the perfect scene. This workshop was part of an initiative organized by actress Lily Cole and Impossible - a global community admirably striving to help people out by sharing ideas, objects and - more importantly - time, by matching an individual's skills to someone who needs them. It's way cool Joss was so willing to share his wisdom about screenwriting.

You can listen to the talk in full below, but if you don't have the time, you can check out the breakdown after the jump:

Joss revealed that he looks for five types of good scenes - Funny, Action, Suspense / Tension, Eroticism, and Romance - but something happened when he was making Serenity. He found The Perfect Scene:

There was one scene - I don't remember which one it was or if its in the final film - that had every single one of them and when I wrote out - Funny, Action, Suspense, Tension, Erotic, Romance - it said 'faster.'
I was like 'Oh my God! That's amazing!' It's also true. When you have all those going... the audience is engaged on a shit-ton of levels.

Now, I've thought and thought and I'm just not sure which scene Joss was talking about...

Let's break the 5 categories down to see what we're looking for...

1. Suspense / Tension

These are those classic Joss nail-biting scenes where lives are on the line and even Mal Reynolds is gorram anxious. Think a dirty great fleet of Reavers on the horizon...

---------------------------------------------------------------

2. Eroticism

Well, if you're cooped up on a ship floating lonely as a distant moon through the 'verse, crushing on your co-passengers is kind of a given.

---------------------------------------------------------------

3. Romance

Romance is important, and Joss Whedon is one of the only people who can do romance without making me wanna vomit. This may be something to do with the fact that he always crams these relationships with CRUSHING HEARTACHE AND DESPAIR.

---------------------------------------------------------------

4. Funny

Even though Joss can be a cruel overlord of his 'Verse, he always knows how to make us laugh. The jokes keep everything humming along nicely.

---------------------------------------------------------------

5. Action

Fighting, explosions, and intergalactic space chases of the highest order - if you're really lucky, you'll get to see River Tam unleash her powers.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Can you help us find Serenity's perfect scene?

Any and all suggestions welcome - as Shepherd Book says, 'I don't care what you believe in, just believe in it.'

Poll

Do think you can help us identify Joss Whedon's 'Perfect Scene' in Serenity?
