Now, before you begin judging what I am about to say, read the article in its entirety. It is just a theory, not fact, and I just wanted to share my thoughts on this strange mega event Marvel is having next year. Now let's dive in, shall we?

What exactly is this"reboot" of Secret Wars?

Answer: We don't completely know yet. But it almost certainly has to do with this:

After the events of Infinity, the Illuminati (no, not the secret society hell bent on taking over the world, the super hero secret group solving dangerous secret) are reformed to stop the threat of the Incursions, which they were told about by the Builders ( if you want to know about that, you need to read Infinity and most of [The Avengers](movie:9040) stories leading up to it ). The space between universes has been destroyed, causing universes to overlap in "White Events", and then collide and both universes are destroyed. The Illuminati tries to find a way to stop this, and it works with the power of the Infinity Gauntlet. Later, they go on to memory wipe Captain America, and Namor destroys an entire planet to prevent it from colliding with Earth 616. Namor is kicked out of the team, and he forms his own with the Cabal (Thanos and co. ), who start destroying alternate Earths so that one universe out of every two can, what OTHER alternate Earths are there?

By my infinite number....

But what exactly is it leading up to?

Marvel released a video explaining what their teasers are...somewhat. They are alternate universes being merged together into Battleworld. This makes sense for, let's say, House of M. It was an alternate reality. Old Man Logan, Days (Years) of Future Past, Age of Apocalypse, Age of Ultron (split reality) and Marvel Zombies are alternate universes. But Civil War? Planet Hulk? Amazing Spider-Man Renew your Vows? [The Inhumans](movie:910490)? Infinity Gauntlet? Avengers vs Xmen? Really? A very good theory I have heard of is that these are realities where the event/storylines/crossovers happened differently. This could go for some very interesting stories. The Secret Wars poster at the top of the page also shows many heroes fighting against each other. But this isn't just "many heroes". It's alternate versions of heroes. So instead of regular Spiderman you have Miles Morales Ultimate Spiderman. Instead of Ghost Rider you have 2099 Ghost Rider. Instead of Daredevil you have MC2 Darkdevil....what does this remind you of?

Crisis on Infinite Earths was a mega event spanning the DC Multiverse in 1985. Marvel seems to be replicating that event and the original Secret Wars a lot.....

DC's Crisis ended with a Marvel going to go out with a bang and "reboot" their universe?

Maybe. Maybe not. But they can reboot WITHOUT demolishing their continuity. Simple. Merge all universes, kill off some versions of characters, and have one universe with certain versions of characters (I'm crossing my fingers for Marvel to kill off the modern crappy X-Men and replace them either with their Days of Future Past or X-Men '92 versions ). This is how Miles Morales could migrate over to the main marvel universe. This way, Marvel wouldn't do what made DC lose a bunch of longtime fans. And this way, old versions of characters people loved would be able to comeback, and this event (I believe) will have something for every type of Marvel fan....
