Welcome to the next in a series of previews that I will be doing here on MP. This time, we'll be looking at Mortdecai! A new film starring Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor and Olivia Munn.

Mortdecai is an action/comedy. It's about the adventures of debonair art dealer Charlie Mortdecai who, together with his wife Johanna (Gwyneth Paltrow) and his tough as nails bodyguard Jock Strapp (Paul Bettany) must race around the world to be the first to recover a stolen painting said to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold (Shinier than regular gold), all the while dodging the clever Inspector Martland (Ewan McGregor) and a seductive nymphomaniac played by Olivia Munn.

Having seen the trailer I can confidently say that this movie is going to be hilarious! Though I can also say it won't be very funny in the critics point of view. Mortdecai seems like the type of movie that will be loved by audiences for it's wacky characters, innuendo humor and notable cast. But will be panned by critics nonetheless for reasons like "dry humor" "tasteless jokes" and "it's a Johnny Depp film and recently we've been hating him and Adam Sandler."

It reminds me a lot of the Pink Panther film series actually. The one with Steve Martin, not the cartoon series with the actual Pink Panther.

Yeah...that one.
Yeah...that one.

Anyway, Johnny Depp is a hilarious actor. He's also really good at not being himself. What I mean is, this guy can change his face for whatever role he's in. He's gone from a demon barber, to a loony hatter and now a British art dealer/thief!

But he's not the only one who makes this movie great! Just look at the all-star cast! Like...

Gwyneth Paltrow!

The lovely and graceful Gwyneth Paltrow! You may know her from her many notable roles. Like Dora in The Good Night, Beth Emhoff in Contagion and Pepper Potts in the MCU!!

In Mortdecai, Pepper plays Charlie's lovely wife Johanna Mortdecai. In the trailer, it's quite noticeable that she wears the pants in the family. And those pants are probably solid gold seeing as how she loves to spoil herself with the riches that she and her dashing husband acquire.

In the words of sir Kanye of the West: "Now I am not accusing the maiden of being a practitioner of digging gold, but she is not messing with any broke BROKE! Sorry nervous spat."

Ewan McGregor!

You might know Ewan here as Elmont from Jack the Giant Slayer (really underrated film by the way) and his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy!

In Mortdecai, Ewan plays Inspector Martland. He gives Mortdecai the job of recovering the painting. Unbeknownst to him, Mortdecai's totally stealing it.

Though in all honesty, the devious handlebar mustache should have tipped him off.

Paul Bettany!

Paul Bettany is known for playing Silas in The Da Vinci Code, as well as voicing J.A.R.V.I.S in all of the MCU films he appears in. He's also done two other films with Johnny Depp besides Mortdecai (Transcendence, The Tourist).

In Mortdecai, he plays Jock Strapp; Charlie's bodyguard/"business partner". In the trailer we see him taking out some guys (And I don't mean for a nice dinner) and having a 1v1 wrestling match with a guard dog! His attitude and ability to snap a dude's neck with his pinky toe (not seen but come on you know he can!) really makes you wonder if Jock Strapp is his nickname, or if his parents anticipated his future occupation and named him accordingly.

The film has an ensemble cast! And not only that, but a great director. David Koepp (pictured below) has wrote for some great films including Spider-Man (The Tobey Maguire one), Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Premium Rush.

So the movie's got a great cast and a great director. But, like most comedies of it's kind, will probably do better with the audience than it will with critics. Though who knows, I could be wrong. We'll just have to wait until Mortdecai releases on January 23rd, 2015!

Here's the trailer so you can see for yourself if you'd like this film!
