Where do I begin... I suppose I will start with Mathew McConaughey. I don't have to go out on a limb here by saying that he gave quite possibly one of the best performances of his career. If Oscar night comes, and he is not mentioned for his role as Cooper (an EX-pilot turned farmer), in this movie, I will be utterly shocked and disappointed. McConaughey gave an emotional performance, that even had me choked up at times in the theater. You really feel the deep connection he has with his family, which is what I believe is the heart of this movie.
Without giving much away. This movie explores so many facets of so many things, grounded in what is reality and what could be reality. But It also asks the question "What is reality?" Or at least can reality mean more than what we have come to understand it is as the human race.
For some, this movie could be hard to follow if you are a person who doesn't like to imagine things outside of what we know, or think outside the box so to speak. But this movie will definitely test that. For me, I think that is exactly the reason I enjoyed 'Interstellar' so much. It asks the questions and ponders things that sometimes I like to sit and question myself.
Director Christopher Nolan has definitely outdone himself, with his follow up to the "Dark Knight Trilogy." One of my favorite things in Hollywood, is to see a director not afraid to try something new, and not just rest on what has gotten comfortable, or what makes them the most money. I have nothing but the utmost respect for a directory who comes up with a story and a vision in their style, and puts together the perfect cast then brings it to life piece by piece leaving us with a spectacle that can only be described easily as one of the best movies of the year.
If I had to come up with a negative on this movie, it would be the run time being just shy of three hours. Which isn't uncommon in the "Nolanverse" But even to that defense, right at the moment I began saying to myself, "How much more can happen in one movie?" It ended.
Interstellar is a thrill ride that can't be missed while in theaters. 3D would definitely be worth forking out the extra cash. You will not be disappointed.
