During the late '80s and much of the '90s Disney experienced a golden age of film, often referred to as the Disney Renaissance. During this time, many of our favorite animated films were released; Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, and of course the film that started it all: The Little Mermaid.

This week The Little Mermaid turned 25 years old, and although a quarter of a century has past, the movie is still as popular as ever and continues to find a place in the hearts of a whole new generation of children (not to mention encouraging them all to use forks as hair combs!).

Take a look at these beautiful pieces of fan-art that prove that The Little Mermaid remains one of Disney's most beloved films, even 25 years after it was first released:

Ariel in real life

What do you think, Ariel in real-life? This looks pretty awesome to me.

Ariel watching Eric's party on the boat

The scene where Ariel watches Prince Eric celebrate his birthday and falls in love with him is one of my personal faves, I love this take on it, the fireworks look awesome!

"Wanna see 'em dancing"

I love this picture particularly for Ariel's eyes, she looks so sad!

Ursula a.k.a. the best Disney villain

I love evil Ursula! She looks like she's scheming behind those long nails and voluminous hair, muahaha.

Ursula with Ariel's voice

Ursula and Ariel in real life look pretty scarily awesome if I'm honest; and it looks like either Flotsam or Jetsam is slithering away in the background too.

"What's a fire?"

Did you know this is actually a real painting?! It's called Magdalen with the Smoking Flame and when it's not spending time in Ariel's grotto it lives in the Louvre. I love this Acrylic painting of Ariel, the texture looks pretty rad.

Ariel and King Triton

Aw this father and daughter pair is so cute!

"Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?"

Ariel's underwater grotto always looked so cool when I was a kid, this artwork makes it look just as cool, it even has the dancing couple up on a top shelf and one of Ursula's sneaky eels down in the left corner.

BFFF (Best Fishie Friends Forever)

Flounder may be a bit of a scaredy-fish but when Ariel's in trouble he's the best fishie friend to have around!

Ariel and stoney faced Eric

Though King Triton later destroyed the statue of Prince Eric it was already too late, Ariel was head over heals. I really like this unusual style as well!

Part of your World

The sparkly ocean! Ariel on the rock! The castle! It's all perfect!

Kiss the Girl

Ah I love this picture of Sebastian, it might be his goofy expression or just the general style, but it's all pretty damn cool.
