DICE have a great history for First Person games, particularly in terms of warfare. Therefore, when we look at the likes of Star Wars: Battlefront, what areas from their exciting past could DICE implement into their biggest FPS of 2015 for Xbox One and PS4?
The Battlefield series has a lot of lessons for Star Wars: Battlefront 3, from map design to DLC. Let's take a close look at Battlefield 4 in particular, because I really feel that this title has a lot that it can teach the future of shooters. I can't actually contain my excitement for this game, and to think that I'm going to have to wait basically an entire year to see it...not fun.
What Can Battlefield 4 Teach Star Wars: Battlefront?
Let's just get one thing out of the way. What needs to happen with Star Wars: Battlefront, is this: DLC needs to feck off (thought I'd bring some of my Irish heritage to the article)! Battlefield 4 had a ridiculous amount of DLC packs released for it since October last year.
The Premium edition of the game should have been the one that was initially released. The game was filled with bugs and lacking in content when we first saw it. But if you were to pick up the edition that is on sale now, you'd be getting a really great Battlefield game.
What they should have done, was remove the campaign all together and just implemented all of the DLC into the game from the get go. But of course, that's not exactly what EA is looking for (though thankfully they haven't done that with Dragon Age: Inquisition, soooo much content!!). Therefore, I really hope that we will get the Star Wars: Battlefront game that is worth the price we pay for it from the get go.
With that aside, let's look at the positive aspects, I mean, some of that DLC was amazing! Check out this article too - New Info on Metal Gear Solid 5!!
Naval strike is one of the greatest things that Battlefield has introduced in years. The combat was taken to a whole new playing field and incorporated modes from other matches into one. What this DLC demonstrated, when taking a look at Star Wars: Battlefront, is how DICE could incorporate space-to-ground combat.
With the ability to hop on a boat and speed around the ocean, land on an enormous enemy ship and then make your way to the outer deck to take off in a helicopter...I mean this shows how capable they are for giving us a similar dynamic in space.
Just imagine being on the likes of Hoth when Darth Vader arrived. We begin by defending our base and sending out our ships to take down the AT-STs and AT-ATs. Our base is over run and we take our X-Wings out into space where we are met with hoards of Tie Fighters and continue a battle in the final frontier. Also, all environments are destructible, including the enormous ships.
All of this could be like capture the flag. There could be two bases on Hoth and then two out in space, allowing us to stop enemies on their way into the planet, leaving it or on the ground or in a battleship. This is our collective dream for Star Wars: Battlefront.
While I've always enjoyed the combat in Battlefield 4, I really hope that they make it optional to play Battlefront in FP or 3rd Person. Please put as much detail into both of these viewpoints DICE!
