Stephen King's apocalyptic novel "The Stand" is being adapted for the big-screen by director Josh Boone (The Fault In Our Stars ) in a four movie franchise for Warner Bros.

The story is set during an apocalyptic time, when a virus has ravaged most of the world's population. The Stand, which was published in 1978 ,was turned into a Tv mini series that aired in 1994, starring Rob Lowe, Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwald.

Only one cast member has been announced so far for the movie adaption, high profile actor and Oscar winner Mathew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club). McConaughey will play villain Randall Flagg. Flagg, a demonic cowboy with supernatural powers, is the novel's main antagonist.

We can expect to see the first movie of the four movie franchise some time in late 2015 or early 2016. An exact release date is yet to released.
