We all remember those days. The days of watching Christian Bale in his iconic role of Batman. Either kicking ass and taking names, or showing off his detective skills, it is no surprise that Bale really revolutionizing the character. With Christopher Nolan at the helm, and Bale taking the wheel, we really got to see a Batman who we weren't ashamed of. A Batman with no credit card, a Batman who didn't beat people to a pulp. Sure we all felt like the older Batmen such as George Clooney and Michael Keaton, put their own unique spin on a character. Whether Batman was more dark and violent, or more lighthearted and comedic, we all sort of felt like something was missing. Which of course their was. We were missing Christian Bale. Who not only put his own spin on a character, but shaped the Batman we all know and love today. So of course when they announced Batman vs Superman we all jumped with joy over the thought of Bale taking up the mantle of Batman one more time. But of course as we all know today, Ben Affleck stars of movies such as Armeggedon, [Daredevil](movie:47230), and Argo, has been cast as the new Batman. This of course pissed many a people off, and nearly started a riot. It also caught many of us by surprise. I honestly could never envision Affleck as Batman, nor did I want too. I wanted Christian Bale back, and apparently he wanted back too. Yes, you read right. Christian Bale wanted to be Batman again. He is making this no secret of this.
In an interview with Empire magazine, Bale expressed his feelings of the news of Affleck taking over the mantle. He expressed his views saying
"I've got to admit initially, even though I felt that it was the right time to stop, there was always a bit of me going, 'Oh go on... Let's do another.'"
Bale also goes on to express his feelings of regret when he first heard the Gone Baby Gone star will replacing him as the cinemas Batman
"So when I heard there was someone else doing it, there was a moment where I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour."
So that got me thinking. What if Bale was to reprise his iconic role as Batman in [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870)? Well honestly, no matter how much I loved Bales interpretation of the hero, or the thought of him returning. I realized that a new Batman is for the best. Seeing as Batman vs Superman is set a few years in the future, I believe it is time for a new Batman. Sure Bale has done an amazing job, better than any of us could imagine, but after seven years I just think it is time. Time for someone else to show us what they can do. Its time for something new, and that is exactly what Batman vs Superman is promising. Who knows, maybe Affleck will do an even better job then Bale did. I just hope that whatever they are doing with the character, that it does him justice. Hopefully they will incorporate that dark, pained feel that Bale has been able to bring to the franchise. So in the end it seems will always be around, whether on the big screen, comic books, or in our heart. But we can't forget the actor that brought this hero back to life, and maybe in the future we will see Bales Batman on the big screen yet again.
