I have to say its really becoming a daily base seeing comments over the internet of people complaining about the Marvel movie rights. I just thought I'd take the time today to break the main situations down and to tell all you people saying that "Sony/Fox should give their character rights back to Marvel Studios" that it doesn't need to happen.
One of the main things I want to talk about is what Marvel are doing themselves. It seems new comics are hitting the shelves that evolve around the recent movies that are comic out. Before the Guardians of the Galaxy movie was announced, their comics were currently dead as I am aware. Now Marvel can't get enough of GOTG comics. Also there's that new Ant-Man comic launching. Wouldn't be surprise if Dr. Strange, Black Panther and Captain Marvel got new series soon. Wouldn't blame Marvel with some of the stuff they are doing because they obviously want to attract more people who watch the movies.
My problem is that it seems their just trying to move away from the X-Men and Fantastic Four. I can understand why they are cancelling Fantastic Four because the sales aren't doing very well but it seems a bit odd that they want to end the team all together. We could be getting a rebooted universe by later next year with the ways things are going, which I wouldn't mind. Mainly because I think the currently universe is beginning to drain on ideas and were seeing stuff like a female Thor. I'd rather see a female Thor if it was in an alternate universe and not the main universe. I don't want to spend to much time here talking about the comics but I do believe things aren't going at their best at the moment. Also killing off Wolverine even though they'll probably resurrected him a few years down the line. Its said he could be returning in 2016. One of the things I want Marvel to remember is that they still have loyal fans who enjoy Fantastic Four and X-Men, so I hope they don't just get rid of them because they don't own the rights to the movies. I know there's no plan at the moment to get rid of X-Men but it does seem that they could be heading that way. With Wolverines death and the fall of the Fantastic Four it is possible that Marvel could be heading that direction. They won't get rid of Spider-Man though cause he's still too popular.
MARVEL STUDIOS HAVE ACOMPLISHED A LOT WITHOUT SPIDER-MAN/X-MEN
Off the comics now and onto the movies. Im sure some of you have heard this before but if it weren't for Fox and Sony buying the rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four and Spiderman, the company would be bankrupt. Marvel weren't going to sell Guardians, Ant-Man etc. because they simply weren't popular enough back then. But if you think about it if Marvel did have the rights to all these characters do you honestly think that we would be getting movies like GOTG, Dr. Strange, Captain America or even Avengers. With Marvel's most popular being sold off it has given them the chance to turn B-lister and even C-lister characters into A-listers. Were getting more and more characters come to the big screen that wouldn't of been possible ten years ago.
FOX AND SONY HAVEN'T DONE THAT BAD
Im gonna be honest and say that my favourite Marvel movie came from Sony. That movie would be Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man movie. If you wanna bring up stuff about source material then I can tell you Sam Raimi's movies have demonstrated the work of Stan Lee better than a lot of the MCU's movies. I've also enjoyed the recent Amazing Spider-Man movies even though a lot of people have hated on The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But just because Sony have made some bad decisions that shouldn't mean they need to give up Spidey. Most of the Spider-Man comic related stuff I like doesn't involve the Avengers so Im not really bothered about a team-up. Although I'd rather Sony focus just on Spider-Man movies than trying to build their own cinematic universe, mainly because there really isn't much they can do due to lack of characters. I also do wish the producers would let the directors/writers have more freedom with what they do rather than forcing too much into one movie.
Well thats Sony's side, now onto Fox. As far as the Fantastic Four goes I wouldn't care if the rights went back to Marvel Studios. Unless Fox have something to prove with this reboot then Im really not interested because every bit of news I hear regarding the movie is bad. Sorry but thats my view on that. Apart from that though I have really enjoyed their recent X-Men movies. First Class and Days of Future Past have been pretty strong movies. Better than a lot of the MCU's movies. DOFP is now one of my favourite comic book movies and I am super hyped for Apocalypse. I have a few concerns with the upcoming movie but maybe I'll save that for a later article. Also we got the Deadpool movie coming in 2016 and if that can prove to be a success then Deadpool could be the next big fiction character in the movie industry.
As far as Im concerned Im ok with the way things are going. Well Im not so sure on Sony's plan with the Spider-Man universe. I wish they'd let the directors have more control over the movies because if they did that we may have got to have seen Sam Raimi complete his Spider-Man saga. And maybe Spider-Man 3 would have been better.
BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOUR GETTING
Now again, sure your gonna get the odd bad movie but come on everyone. Its amazing that were getting all these comic book movies. We could have been living through a time where this never happens. But it has and were getting to witness it. Some people are just happy to see their favourite characters on the big screen whether their part of a bigger universe or not.
So Im gonna round it up there. We have had some major changes in the comics, we have an ever expanding cinematic universe. Also to finish it off we have two companies that kept Marvel movies alive and because of that we should all be thanking Sony and Fox.
