ggWith less than one month left until the Christmas day premiere of Disney's newest musical adaptation "Into the Woods," we're getting hit with brand new magical surprises everyday, the latest of which is an extended look at Meryl Streep's incredible vocals as the ragged old Witch. Although the 65-year-old three-time-Academy Award winner is no strangers to musicals (check her out in her rendition of "Slipping Through My Fingers" from Mamma Mia below), she admitted that she definitely had to spruce up the old vocal cords for her latest endeavor:
Streep as Donna in Mamma Mia
[Into the Woods is] a great piece of American theater history. To imagine we could make a film and I could sing this music was a privilege. And a high bar. I thought yes, OK man, I’m going to do this.
The latest look at Disney's newest musical masterpiece features The Witch (Meryl Streep) singing lovingly...and somewhat desperately...to her daughter Rapunzel, warning her that "princes, yes, but wolves and humans too" lurk within the Woods...
Streep as The Witch in Into the Woods
I feel bad for the Witch, and yet, at the same time, I'm thoroughly freaked out by her. I guess that kind of perplexing dichotomy can only be achieved by a theatrical genius like Meryl Streep herself.
Seriously though, between "Slipping Through My Fingers" and "Stay with Me," Streep's characters seem to have some issues letting their daughters grow up.
Well, I don't know about you, but finally hearing a full section of Sondheim's legendary lyrics combined with Streep's vocal talent makes me even more excited for Christmas day to arrive! :D
