It's here! The official Star Wars You Tube Channel has dropped the first online trailer for episode 7.

...and what can we say? After 30 years the Millennium Falcon is still in service, but what's more interesting is the supposed Sith lord that threatens the galaxy is sporting a light saber from the days of old, when they burned more like fire. Hipster.

Don't poke yourself with that hilt.
Don't poke yourself with that hilt.

We'll have to watch it a few more times to spot where all the supposed practical effects (my personal hipster fetish) that J.J. Abrams and company has boasted about, but some of the new concepts seem pretty cool, including that soccer ball style droid. On the other hand, the hilt of that light saber looks pretty impractical to me. I'd totally poke myself.

Noticeably absent from the trailer, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Jar Jar Binks! Sorry about that last one. Just checking to see if you were paying attention. However, I'm very excited to get a look at the new cast. They're all super good looking, of course. If I have one complaint, it would be that in my mind, after 30+ years it seems that we would have some new spaceship designs, just like our modern cars look nothing like they did in 1976. Has the Star Wars Universe been populated by space age hipsters, who now insist on only flying vintage X-Wings and Ty Fighters? I was hoping for something new, but of course, it's early days and too hard to know what the new series truly has in store for us.

Over all, I must say that it looks beautiful. I love what J.J. Abrams did with Star Trek (silence hipster nerds) and I can feel his visual touch, with it's dramatic camera moves as the the bad guy strides forward, lock and load stormtroopers, and diverse color pallet, in this sneak peak we have been given.

So, did the new teaser get you pumped?
