There was a lot of action in the mid-season finale of [The Walking Dead](series:201193), so perhaps like me, you're still noticing new and interesting moments from the heartbreaking and action packed episodes, like the clever nod to the movie Boondock Saints.
Boondock Saints is the 1999 crime film which starred Daryl Dixon a.k.a. Norman Reedus in one of the main roles. The film centered around two fraternal twins, Murphy (Norman Reedus) and Connor MacManus (Sean Patrick Flanery), who became vigilantes after killing two members of the Russian Mafia and set out to rid their home city of Boston, of crime and evil.
Come to think of it, that doesn't sound totally unlike The Walking Dead!
Check out two images and see for yourself:
You have to admit, the two shots look quite similar, as does this other image from Boondock Saints:
However it's not just the images that match up, but also what's in the background of The Walking Dead image.
Notice that Rick and Daryl are on the fifth floor? The fifth floor was the same level of the MacManus brothers' apartment in Boondock Saints, and It was from here that Connor MacManus jumped after dropping a toilet onto Checkov.
Not only this, but the sign also has directions to the hospital chapel. Religion and the church are big themes throughout Boondock Saints - not to mention in The Walking Dead this season, where Father Gabriel and his church play significant roles.
The Walking Dead has consistently added small references and nods to other movies and TV shows throughout the show's run, and I, for one, definitely appreciate it every time they sneak one in. I can't wait to see what they do in the second half of Season 5!
