As if we weren't still reeling from the teaser (yes, people - that was just the teaser!) for [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](movie:711158), the folks at /Film decided to set the morning ablaze with a bit of news that, really, works out perfectly for my schedule.
We’ve been definitively told that another trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be attached to Avengers: Age of Ultron when it opens in the Spring.
Fans and press alike have this pretty much figured out already, so while the news isn't exactly surprising, it certainly is exciting. Given that fans of Marvel often intersect with fans of Star Wars, the trailer is perfectly placed, and it was pretty obvious that the trailer would be attached to an upcoming Disney geek flick.
So the wait, of course, is on. But after the 88-second teaser that we were given less Friday, I'd say it's going to be just a bit easier. Let me tell you: I had never been excited about waking up at 7 AM in Los Angeles until last Friday. It felt like Christmas had come early, and I was once again a kid in Darth Vader pajamas, running for the tree in hopes that my mom had finally gotten me that Stormtrooper room guard that came with an orange replica of Han's blaster.
Except, well, I was an adult in Darth Vader pajamas, racing towards my television in hopes of seeing a teaser.
While any further details weren't shared in the piece, it's time for some speculation. Here's what I hope to see in the new trailer:
What's Andy Serkis doing?
Given that Andy Serkis seems to be taking on the role of Ulysses Klaw in [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035), I hope we also get a better look at what he's up to in that galaxy far, far away. We've already been given tiny hints at what Serkis might be up to - the man himself confirmed that it's his voice narrating the movie's teaser. In case you've forgotten his narration, it goes a little something like this:
There has been an awakening... have you felt it? The dark side... and the light.
To me, it sounds like Serkis' character is pretty heavily involved in whatever's happening with The Force at the moment. His voice is dark, aged - almost alien, I'd say. It's been said that Serkis plays an integral role in the film, but doesn't get a whole lot a screen time. With this kind of narration, I'd say we've either found someone to fill the 'Yoda' role (not as Yoda, but as someone like Yoda) or, of course, the ominous voice could belong to someone very different... someone on the dark side of the Force.
We were shown, perhaps, about two planets in the teaser; one that resembles Tatooine, and the mist-filled planet that the X-Wing Squadron flew through. With that said, I'd love to see some of the old staples, especially Coruscant. The political pinnacle of the galaxy must have gone through some changes as of recent, and seeing the aftermath - whether good or bad - would be pretty awesome.
I've said it before, but I'd love to see Kashyyk again as well. The Wookiee planet didn't quite resemble it's legends in Revenge of the Sith, with rolling cliffsides and lush green fields instead of the bottomless villages I grew up knowing through the books. Now, the Expanded Universe has been shifted to the side for the sake of not confusing new fans, but since creators can pull from it as they like, I'd love to see our heroes scaling the branches of Chewie's village.
Kira, Fawn, or Whatever Her Name Will Be
Daisy Ridley's character is very obviously a major focus in these new films. She was the first cast member to be signed on for all three trilogy films, and a majority of the rumors revolve around her. Whether she's a descendant of Anakin Skywalker (I mean, if one look at her face doesn't scream Padme at you, I don't know what will) or a new character altogether, I'd still like to see her in action.
She's been depicted several times with a lightsaber in concept art, and so has John Boyega's character, which seems to be the balance with main trios: In the prequels, Obi-Wan and Anakin were both Jedi, whereas Luke and Leia are both force-sensitive (and Luke is training to be a Jedi, since Leia only finds out about her origins within the Force close to the end). Padme and Han stood as our everymen, and I feel like that's where Oscar Isaac will come into play.
Maybe, just maybe, a tiny peek at our Original Trio
I am honestly unsure of how much I want this. It would be completely incredible to see Han, Luke and Leia in passing, but I feel like their entrances to the film need to be a big deal. These are the characters we've loved our entire lives. I get chills just thinking about seeing Harrison Ford in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon again. Leia, I hope, will be a political matriarch and a Jedi Knight. As for Luke? Well, we've heard more about him than anyone else. If rumors are to be believed, Luke's role will be more interesting than anything we've seen him do before.
