Robert Downey Jr quietly confirmed that [Iron Man 4](movie:886190) would indeed exist. For a while there, no-one knew if there was going to be a fourth installment, and we all couldn't believe they'd pass up the chance. But right now, hardly anyone seems to know about four being confirmed. There's no official word, and that makes us all wonder what will happen. That will either build the hype, or have the hype around the franchise completely die. It makes you wonder what their PR people are thinking! Watch the clip from Ellen below:
However, there's no confirmation in that clip of whether Robert Downey Jr will feature primarily. Some people are speculating that they will give War Machine played by Don Cheadle. However, I'm going to reference the comics and bring up another possibility!
In these issues, Pepper Potts took up the suit of armour. It started off as Tony Stark wanting to make sure she was safe, but she basically said 'to hell with that' and started doing hero work herself. She started going by the alias 'Rescue'.
I think this would be a great direction to go in if they are going to gradually phase out Robert Downey Jr. We know it will have to happen sooner or later, and when it does we will all be sad. However, Pepper Potts taking over would be cool I think. It would also help to introduce a female superhero in the cinematic universe. Marvel is already introducing Captain Marvel, so bringing in what is essentially Iron Woman would be extremely cool in my opinion. Of course, changing the actress could be tumultuous. I like Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper so personally I'd be wondering if Paltrow would be up for an action role like this.
So what about you? Which direction do you think they should take the Marvel cinematic universe provided they have to phase RDJ out gradually?
