Today, the official cast of Suicide Squad was announced. In addition to Jared Leto being officially confirmed as the Joker, Will Smith has been confirmed as Deadshot. In addition to these stars, sources say that WB is close to casting perhaps the most famous woman on television.

According to Variety:

Warners still has the role of Amanda Waller, the character who oversees the team (similar to Nick Fury in the Marvel universe), to cast before the film goes into production. The studio’s shortlist of actresses being eyed for the role includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey, whom sources say would be WB’s first choice for the part.

If this is true, Oprah Winfrey could be on the edge of landing her biggest role yet. Oprah has recently returned from her prolonged live-action movie hiatus with a bang. She played a critically acclaimed role in Lee Daniels' The Butler (earning praise from President Barack Obama as well), and will be playing civil rights activist Annie Lee Cooper in the upcoming Selma.

Of course, this will be quite a huge commitment on Oprah's part. If Amanda Waller ends up being as important as Nick Fury, she could end up being signed on to appear in many more DC films after Suicide Squad.

What do you think about the idea of Oprah joining Suicide Squad? Would it be a nice role for her, or would you rather see Viola or Octavia take the spot?

Who would make a good Amanda Waller?
