In an interview with Kotaku, Tai Yasue - co-director of Kingdom Hearts 3 - said that the prospect of uniting the Marvel and Star Wars universes was not 'off-limits' for Square Enix's upcoming action role-playing game.
The Kingdom Hearts series is famous for featuring various Disney franchise crossovers in its one awesomely mismatched, cartoonish world. Since Kingdom Hearts 2 came out in 2002, Disney has acquired the licenses for Marvel and Star Wars, leading to much speculation about the awesome nerd fantasy potential of the forthcoming third game.
Could we see Jafar, Captain Hook, and Mickey Mouse battling alongside Han Solo, Iron Man and Star‑Lord?! If Tai Yasue is to be believed, it might just be possible! When asked about the likelihood of a Star Wars / Marvel crossover, Yasue replied:
Well, yeah. They’re all under consideration. Nothing’s off-limits, we’re considering all of the worlds. There are so many wonderful concepts. We’re happy about that, but at the same time it’s really tough to choose.
It sounds like the developers have been spoiled for choice when deciding which franchises to include. He goes on:
Yeah, I can’t go into specifics, but there’s a LOT of new Disney stuff and we have our plates full. Theres a lot to consider - we’re looking at all of Disney, the new ones as well, they have a lot of pull and draw.
I can't really think of any Disney properties that have more 'pull and draw' than Marvel and Star Wars. I want to be fighting Donald Duck with a lightsaber while riding the Goblin Glider - let's make it happen Square Enix!
Are you pumped for this epic universe mash-up?!
