I keep reading "recaps" of Walking Dead episodes, but half of them merely focus on the tragic part of the episode, and then go into un-asked for rants about it, and the writer's reaction. What if someone who hasn't seen the episode, simply wants to READ what happened, and JUST what happened, and not some cruddy review? And maybe they're like me, and want to READ, rather than watch a video of someone blabbering about it. So here's an actual recap of "Coda", and nothing but. I'll leave the reviewing and speculating to you commenters.

Obviously, spoilers abound, but out of consideration for any readers who mistakenly came upon this article, I'll "shield" the summary.

Last week, Officer Lamson knocked Sasha in the head and ran. This episode starts with Rick chasing him in Lamson's police cruiser, and using the radio, saying, "Stop. Stop. I won't ask again." Lamson doesn't stop, so Rick hits him with the car, breaking his back. Rick gets out and walks up to Lamson. Lamson begs Rick to take him back to Grady Memorial, but Rick says "You can't go back, Bob." Lamson starts saying Rick and his group'll die if they go to Grady. Rick shoots him in the head and says "Shut up." Rick goes back to the warehouse, and Shepherd and Licari (the other Grady officers they captured) agree to tell Dawn that Lamson got overrun by walkers. Rick says the plan is to go into Grady, Rambo mode, kill everyone, and leave with Carol and Beth. Tyreese and Daryl suggest just trading Shepherd and Licari for Beth and Carol. Rick agrees. Meanwhile, Gabriel is wandering around away from the church, and he finds the school where Gareth's group barbecued Bob's leg. He flips out, and throws the leg over. Then the walkers in the school bust through the door, and chase the priest. Father Gabriel flees, and they follow him. He gets to the church, and bangs on the door, screaming for help. The zombies start getting impaled on the organ pipes Daryl put in the ground. Gabriel pulls one out, and starts jabbing the walkers, while Michonne and Carl hack the boards off the door, and let him in. But the walkers force their way in, and Michonne slices and Carl shoots them down. They hold them off, and then Gabriel holds the office door shut while Michonne and Carl crawl out of the hole he busted in the floor, then he dives down. A walker slits its face in half on the machete he left in the floor, then he grabs it and leaves the church. Then they board the walkers in the church. Meanwhile, Rick meets two Grady cops, and says he has a proposal for them. He says he'll trade their people for his. While they talk, Daryl and Sasha are on the roof in sniper mode. One of the cops asks where Rick's people are. Sasha snipes a nearby walker, and Rick says, "They're close." Back at the church, Team CGM (Carl, Gabriel, Michonne) are starting to worry because the zombies are beginning to bust through the door. Before they can, Team Washington smashes into the front of the church in the fire truck. Maggie asks where Rick & co. are, and Michonne says they're in Atlanta rescuing Beth & Carol. Maggie is overjoyed, and Tara says, "Let's go save your sister." And they board the fire truck, and head toward Grady Memorial. Back at Grady, Officer O'Donnell (the douche from last episode that Beth asked about his DVDs) pushes down Percy (the old man Beth gave the strawberries to) for not sewing his close good enough. Beth is sitting by the elevator shaft, chillin', when Dawn enters the hallway, and Beth starts questioning her, about letting Gorman rape any ward he pleased, and letting officers like O'Donnell abuse the patients. Then, O'Donnell enters the hallway. Dawn tells him Percy died from his injuries. O'Donnell starts questioning Dawn's authority, and criticizes her ability to lead. He then comments that it's Hanson all over again, and starts to walk out. Dawn draws on him, and asks if he remembers that she was the only one that could go through with shooting Hanson. Then O'Donnell starts saying that she changed after Hanson's death. Then he suddenly knocks her gun out of her hand and into the elevator shaft, and starts kicking the crap out of her. She throws him down, and they start fighting. He gets her against the wall, choking her, and says, "You think you're better than us?" Then Beth hits him in the back, and he slaps her down and curses her. While he's distracted by Beth, Dawn chops him in the throat, and kicks him, and he stops in front of the elevator shaft. Dawn yells "BETH!" and Beth pushes him in the shaft. Then, you see Beth sitting in Carol's exam room, when Dawn comes in, offers her a drink, and says it's okay to cry. Beth says she doesn't cry anymore. Beth goes into a spiel about how people at Grady use others to get things, and says Dawn used Beth to get rid of Gorman and O'Donnell. Dawn asks if Edwards used Beth to kill Trevlett, and Carol starts to stir in her bed. A while later, you see Beth putting on the clothes she was wearing back at the funeral parlor with Daryl, where she got kidnapped. Then she puts the scissors she almost killed Edwards with in her hand wrap. Next, we see Team Rick behind the doors at the end of a hallway, with two of Dawn's men, and Shepherd and Licari. dawn radios her two, and tells them to holster their weapons. Rick tells his team to do the same. Then Beth wheels Carol down the hallway in a wheelchair, followed by Dr. Edwards. Rick's team enters. Dawn asks where Lamson is, and S & L tell her about the "walkers". Then Daryl takes Licari to Dawn, and one of the Grady cops wheels Carol over. Then Dawn brings Beth over by the arm, and Rick brings Shepherd. Dawn says "Glad we could work things out." Rick replies, "Yeah." Team Rick starts to walk out, when Dawn says, "Now i just need Noah, and then you can leave." Rick: "That wasn't part of the deal." Daryl: "He ain't stayin'!" Dawn: "He's my ward, you have no claim on him." Rick: "The boy wants to go home, YOU have no claim on him." Dawn: "He was my ward, then Beth took his place. Now I'm losing her, so I need him back. My officers put their lives on the line to look for him, one of them died." Noah: *starts walking toward Dawn* "It's alright, it's okay." Rick: "NO." Noah walks over. Beth: "Wait!" *runs and hugs Noah* Then Dawn: *looks at Noah* "I knew you'd be back." Then Beth opens her eyes and looks at Dawn, with a look of pure seething hatred. (This was the first hint that something big & bad was about to go down, because the music rose.) Beth gets in Dawn's face, both of them silent. Then she says, "I get it now." And drives the scissors into Dawn's shoulder. Then Dawn reflexively shoots Beth in the head, killing her. Beth slumps down, but Dawn catches her, shocked. Everyone stares, also shocked. Then Rick and Daryl step forward. Dawn gives them a look of "I didn't mean to", but it's WAY too late. Daryl pulls out a gun and shoots her point blank in the forehead. Team Grady steps forward to open fire, but Officer Shepherd says, "Hold your fire! It was only about her. It's over." Daryl breaks into tears, and looks down, and all you see is Beth's hand on the ground, Dawn's gun, and a puddle of blood. Then Shepherd and Dr. Edwards offer for Team Rick to stay at Grady, that it's better than "out there." Rick: *in tears* "No. but anyone back there who wants to leave with us, step forward now." Then you see the fire truck pull up outside the hospital, and Team Washington and GCM start killing walkers on the way to the door. Halfway there, they see Rick walking out, shaking his head. Followed by Sasha and Noah. Then Carol and Tyreese, hugging. Then Maggie starts to walk slower, and drops her gun, with a shocked expression. You then see Daryl walking out, cradling Beth in his arms. Maggie screams and collapses, and Glenn rushes out to comfort her, similar to Daryl doing so for Carol when they found Sophia. Then the episode ends, and Morgan shows up again, this time finding the church way after the group left.
