There's no doubt that Sunday night's mid-season finale of The Walking Dead was heart-wrenching television. Beth's quick and brutal death was sure to strike a chord with audience members. But, it seems like some fans aren't quite ready to accept Beth's death and have even started a petition to bring Beth back!

A user on the petition website has submitted a petition to bring our beloved Beth Greene back to The Walking Dead with the hopes of reaching 10,000 signatures, and, at the time of writing, they're only 610 signature away from their goal! The petition lists a number of pretty valid reasons why Beth should be resurrected, take a look:

It was too soon

Her death was far too soon and the writers threw away the potential of a perfectly good character. Her story wasn't over. Emily Kinney and her character don't deserve this. There was so much more to be done with her character and they chose to kill her in a disgusting, unsatisfying death that caused more anger and disappointment than shock and mourning.

Beth definitely could have had many more meaningful storylines, and she had grown a lot as a character since she was introduced in Season 2,. If she hadn't had been killed off I have no doubt she could have added a lot to the group dynamic in the second half of Season 5.

Beth was more than just a character

Beth was a symbol of hope that a lot of women could relate to and see themselves in (especially self-harmers who saw her as someone who overcame their suicidal/depressive feelings).

The Walking Dead has such a wide range of characters that many members of the show's audience can empathize with and relate to. Beth was an especially great character for people who have struggled with mental illness, and especially women, to relate to in the show.

Her death wasn't meaningful

By sloppily killing her it just shows that she was used to further a man's (Daryl's) storyline.

This is a bold claim, but to be honest, I think it's hit the nail on the head. Beth's death will no doubt be a major story arc for Daryl over the remainder of Season 5 (and to be completely fair, it will probably be a major story arc for Maggie as well), as he deals with her death and grows from it.

The petitioners are hopeful

We realize that the circumstances she dies in are irreversible, but this is television. Anything is possible. By signing this petition you can at least show your support for Beth. Let's show Emily Kinney how much we love her and want her back.

They do have a good point, TV land is a strange and interesting place, I'm sure The Walking Dead could find some way to bring back Beth if they really wanted to, and with over 9,000 people signing a petition to being her back, who knows what might happen. In fact, I think even Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman realizes that killing off Beth was a bad move:

RIP Beth, maybe one day we'll see you on the screens again!
